In my vocational class for school, they got 5 Mitsubishi 2.4l 4 cyl's donated to them. I'm not sure where from, but they are BRAND NEW, 0 miles, never been hooked up. Still have the caps on the plugs and everything. Perfect engines. But anyways, I had just figured these were hunks of junk since they were donated, and weren't worth looking at. Stupid me, I just looked at one closer today, and saw that cast on the side of the block was "4G64." It is a SOHC motor though, I would have figured it would have been DOHC....or are there more than one version of the 4G64? Basically what I'm asking is, what are the pro's and con's of this motor, and if it is a good motor, would it be possible to bolt up my exhaust manifold/turbo/intake manifold and whatever else up to it from my 4G63? Would it be worth it, or is this just a stupid post? LOL I really have no idea about the 4G64 motors. All I know is that I can get one for free. Haha. Thanks in advance.

put in the 2g pistons, drop your head up from a 63 on it and turbo parts....2.4 stroke...HELL YES TAKE IT FOOL

So you're saying I can use the block, crank, pistons, rods, etc, and just bolt on the parts from the head on up from my 4g63, and the exhaust manifold, turbo, etc? And that's all? Does anything in the wiring need changed, or the computer? (I already have the TRE MAS-C and the GM MAF conversion...the MASC is like an older SAFC kind of, basically does the same thing though...) Just don't want to get myself into a big mess that I can't finish. Thanks.

man...TAKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you don't end up using it and they let you just "take it" I'm sure you would have no problem selling it. I'm willing to bet alot of people on here would love to get there hands on that.

No, I don't think it's brand new like that...I'm going to get more codes off of it tomorrow and see if I can get a date somehow...where should I look for the date, or a code that will tell what year it is? Anyone know? And thanks for the link 97, I appreciate it a bunch.

Check the 10th Digit on the Vin Number.

/Code\ /Year\
L 1990
M 1991
N 1992
p 1993
R 1994
S 1995
T 1996
V 1997
W 1998

If you can find something like that on there, but the engine identification for a 2.4L is only 97-98 model. All the other SOHC engines are 1.8L, cant really tell ya what the exact year is but anything helps alittle.

If you dont want it, I sure would..... Probably a lot of other people too! If they have more, what are they doing with them?

So what would you have to do to get a good compression ratio for a turbo aplication?
Also what would be a good ratio for turbo aplication?
Just doing some research on the 4g64 and how well it will work for a swap for a 2G 4g63.

yo if its free TAKE IT. Who cares if it works or not you can sell it for at least 200 dollars and look thats 200 you didnt start with. But if its a95-99 4g64 and while the motors out just drop 8.5 compression pistons in it ( like posted above ) and swap heads because you can put a dohc head from a 4g63 on that with a little fabrication and slap some multi layer gaskets on it, and you can put a stock 14b 1st gen turbo and manifold on that and just run custom exhaust, but the manifold is the same.... and boom you now have a 1st gen 4g63 thats equivilent to a 2.4 stroker, with 2nd gen pistons and 1st gen boost capabiities. As far as ecu and wiring goes i have no idea might want to do your research on that but if you got everything to work right then you could easily have a 300+ hp motor even with a stock turbo if everything was done right.

I'm sure he has made his decision by now... seeing as how he originally posted a year and a half ago
