thanks for the info, do you know of anywhere that sells them new and ready to go off the shelf?Contact Goldfarb and Assoiciates (also turbodaddy.com) for good used cores. . . For actually a bit cheaper than that for the hx40 or hx52, you can have it rebuilt and good as new. Contact Jusmx141, who also posted in this thread. He KNOWS turbos and expecially rebuilding them. He can rebuild any brand you give him, except ball bearing Garretts. No one can
Also ebay has them. Be careful of counterfitting. The chinese counterfit these turbos jsut like the garrett gt and 16g turbos. Diesel forum classifieds are a great place to snatch up one of these too. Or High tech turbo, gillett diesel, PDR for new. But the deal is in the plentifulness of good used cores. A decent rebuild will make any journal bearing turbo run like new.
The hx40's you have to watch out for. There are 6blade 56mm wheels and then there are 8blade 58mm wheels and the 6 and 7blade 60mm wheels (both are the super40 wheel). Under 60lb/min, 60lb/min, 68lb/min flow respectively. Don't get a 56mm 6blade thinking you have a 60mm 6blade. Most have a t4 bolt pattern. Some have a t3 bolt pattern. All have twinscroll. Which provides the best spool for the most flow.
The hx50/52/55 needs the t4 boltholes in the manifold widened a little. It is slightly larger than a t4 but not the same pattern as a t6. Also twinscroll.
well iam looking to get between 575-600awhp from my current setup and hopefully get 10.3-10.5 et's @130-135 thats my first goal, next I would like to eventually upgrade my current turbo to something cost effective that will net me 700-800awhp I mostly do roll racing with big turbo hondas, supras bikes etc. and occasionally drag racing at the track, the car will mostly be a weekend warrior. Motor is built and I can rev the piss out of it to10k so if the holset HX52 can do that on a T4 setup for alot less than the FP HTA3586R then thats the route iam willing to take, but if the S366 is a more proven turbo for a little more I may go that route instead.
So for my driving habits what do you recommend? thanks in advance
. The next quickest s366 on the dsmtimes list took 3500lbs (<=== I think that weight is a little inflated) to 10.012@142. And the third quickest s366 car took 3000lb (that weight's more realistic) to 10.164@146. All these were running 35+ psi. . . The s366 has done more but the hx52 has ALOT more in it than what the quickest guy on dsmtimes did with one SO FAR
. See the Euro Volvos and Audis with them.Dacowgod made 575 at the wheels with a 7-blade HX40 in a .70 a/r T3 Bullseye housing on his 2.4-powered 2G. Boost was peaking at a touch under 40psi at 6k and dropping to 29-30psi by redline due to a wastegate spring that was too weak. This was done on Buschur's dyno the day before the Shootout this year with IAT's over 100* .well iam looking to get between 575-600awhp from my current setup and hopefully get 10.3-10.5 et's @130-135 thats my first goal.

The following day at the track Ricky trapped high 120's after a severely botched launch. This was the first time the car was ever launched on a track with the PTT twin-disc clutch, which has an action similar to a toggle switch.
Dialed in, weight removed, and on slicks or good street tires this is a definite 10-second car.
Contact High Tech Turbo. or Gillett Diesel. . .
Looks like you want something you can grow into. If you want semi-street manners definately look at a twinscroll setup. The hx52 comes in that form. It will spool MUCH faster than convetional openscroll housings and flow about the same uptop. So you can have a decent setup for 550-600whp, that won't be a lag monster even though you can make 700-800whp with it down the road.
Do some research on getting the s366 twinscroll. I don't think the s366 is any more proven than the hx52, actually. But both are still great turbos. A tuners member with a 2.0L motor fully spooled the hx52 with a divided runner manifold by 4700rpms, IIRC. Cosmin Ardeljan took the s366 to 9.58@148 but his settup weighed in at 2250lbs. Mattias Nilsson took the hx52 to 10.001@142 and weighed in at 3040lbs. The next quickest s366 on the dsmtimes list took 3500lbs (<=== I think that weight is a little inflated) to 10.012@142. Regardless, BOTH choices are excellet, will definately meet your goals and are FAR less expensive than a ballistic tech turbo. The s366map looks great! you can see it on BEP's website I think. Heres the hx50/52/55 compressor map:

It's worth a shot. It's DEFINATELY possible. And the 3065 is a GREAT turbo for track and street. But the record held by Lucas English isn't much over that. Just don't be disappointed. You can always sell the fp3065 used for a turbo that WILL net that goal and have money left over for another upgrade or 2. Justins advice still stands, if your current goal isn't met. But regardless, that "shop" told you wrong. You DO certainly have a 550whp setup, with a decent tuner at the helm.
