FP68HTA - Back to Back Vs an E3 16g!

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

I'm watching this very closely, If I keep my car I an this out performs the E3 by far I will spend the extra 200$ and get this in stead of the E3.. mail man hurry up.. LOL

I hope to get a baseline done very soon.. Turbo goes on as soon as I can get it on (should be here early next week) - then return for another power run to check it all out.

As for a final tune to exploit the FP68 - found out today that will have to wait until early next year as the guy I want to tune it is booked up till then. He also hates my management choice - so I'm pushing it to get it done sooner..

What octane fuel are you running and what is your peak timing at 7k rpm?
10.0 is very rich.
I can run 11.0 on 91 octane at 20psi with 14* timing
It's all about airflow tuning, but then again you are running a 9.0 compression motor.

Oh, and FWIW, when I run richer 10.5 it knocks...
If I lean it out knock goes away.

I have yet to tune it with my new fuel pump though, so those numbers are hopefully going to improve.

98 octane (your 93)
I can't log it - nothing will communicate
You're running an 18g? The E3 is very timing sensitive, unlike that wheel.

Without being able to tune it yet, it kills my low down off boost response & midrange

As for running lean (response to JDM fuel maps) - I do not have a factory JDM ecu. I have a Tomei ECU that comes as a matched pair to the 260/260 cams - this thing runs RICH :)

Turbo arrives on the 10th. Should have results within a 2-3 weeks...

Billet goodness.....

Turbo fitted up 100% and all plumbed in - booking the dyno tomorrow.

Not much weather forecast under 100 deg F this week though! Tuesday 19th might be ok - 'only' 86 deg F forecast..

Empty house and looking after #1 tonight so can't go for a blast. Will take her around the block tomorrow night and report back in 24...

All good!

Firstly: Quick snap of it Vs my E3 turb

Went for a quick drive, the verdict:

Perfect Match

More progressive and linear power delivery than the E3 turbo. ZERO loss of power down low - bit more intake noise (I like that)

E3 turbo is: nothing nothing, bang everything, nothing

The 68HTA is: little bit, more more more more more, revlimit

No tune - 20psi

Dyno looks like being booked for Monday - Running it up on the Tomei ECU then tuning it with the Haltech.... Numbers to come once I get some!..

Didn't get the tune done yesterday – 110 Degrees!!

LOL, cool good luck. some guys mentioned someone else with this turbo cranked 500whp at 41psi. I don't know who, not curt brown was what they were saying though so achieveable by us mere mortals maybe LOL.

Annoyed this is taking so long, BUT

Logged afr's last night on an innovate LM2..

Dialed in a bit more boost - 23.3 psi (she goes alright too  )

I have touched nothing on the car except the turbo, 3rd gear pull ~30mph - ~75mph (3rd gear) and this is what it's doing.

Japanese ECU - Tomei brand which was sold as a match to the 260/260 cams. Evo 9 560cc injectors and rewired intank pump upgrade. HKS fuel rail - stock fuel pressure.

AFR on the left axis time on the bottom axis. This pull was ~7 seconds in length from 3000rpm to 7300rpm - Spool does not seem to be a problem for this thing..

Trying my best to get on a dyno as-is to get a number..

Hrmmm, not so rich anymore are you?
Did you use the same wideband to log your AFR's last time when you reported 10.0:1?

What are you using for a Mass Air Flow Sensor, OEM?
Can your Haltech EMS log airflow and do you have a MAP sensor logging boost?

I am unfamiliar with the Haltech EMS Interface, but can you richen the fuel delivery?
Are you detonating?
Can you fine tune your Airflow Hz?

I found that airflow tuning and ZERO Boost Leaks is key to a perfect tune.

Once I get my Wilwood BBK installed, I will be able to retune my set-up.
My old Supra TT Pump crapped out and now I'm on a Wally 255HP.
Much more consistent AFR's and just a much more stable tune... Can't Wait.
Oh, and another thing, you mentioned that I'm on the 18g, but it has the EIII TD05H Turbine wheel which is barely ok for the EIII Comp Wheel.
I get some surge with my 18g, but I learned how to drive it.
Sure would be nice to send my 18g to Forced Performance and have them stuff in a TD06SL2 turbine wheel.
I may just have to call Robert.

Dyno booked for Tuesday.

Last time was logged on the dyno with an Autronic wideband. This was done on the road with the LM2

EVO 3 OEM

Can your Haltech EMS log airflow NO and do you have a MAP sensor logging boost? Yes, when the Haltech is fitted. Currently hits peak boost and holds to redline

I am unfamiliar with the Haltech EMS Interface, but can you richen the fuel delivery? Yes, can set target AFR
Are you detonating? NO. The evo 3 turbo would be rattling like a tin can at this boost level though
Can you fine tune your Airflow Hz? Not sure, I have no control over the ecu. Although if this is done by tweaking the AFM I won't bother

I found that airflow tuning and ZERO Boost Leaks is key to a perfect tune. I have zero boost leaks - check with boost leak down

Before placing my order I asked for a TD06SL2 68HTA to be built, I was told NO by FP direct!! I contacted KMAK to get the TD06SL2 turbine wheel months ago but no response. If anyone can buy me one let me know & i'll Paypal you :)
It's the perfect combo imo

Dang, I'd like to see the results. This is the turbo I will run.

Seems like a great choice for a street setup, i think a lot of people are going to see great results with this turbo.
