FP3582 vs FP3065

Apparently the 3065 is a sweet deal but what about the 3582? Would it be better suited to run the 3582 for achieving 600 whp opposed to the 3065? I've done nothing but math and math on this and it's getting me no where other than just match-crunching headaches....

Well from what I was told in either this or another thread I should go ahead and use the 97-99 (2GB) 7 bolt engine. I'm tempted to try my luck with the 2GA and just do a really really detailed job and whatnot.

As a first time build (engine/turbo) I want to see how well I do. Everyone has given me the information and you've (TSimage) supplied one of the assets... closer than I was, now just need to get the remaining bits.

If you decide to go built, save yourself the future heartache and go ahead and start with a 6bolt platform. Whether you use your 2g head or not is up to you.. In a street application, I'd stick with the 2G head personally but definitely go 6bolt bottom end.

I've read up on doing 6-bolt swaps and I've heard of nothing but headache. But I've also gotten mixed messages about how a 7-bolt can work too just have to make sure it's all done properly, I dunno, again I know about the 6-bolt bottom end but I want to try my luck.

well i just talked to fp and asked them how many pounds/min their HTA3082 flows and they had said around 55 pounds/min so im confused how does this produce more power than the 3582 or 3065?

It wouldn't outflow either one by only making 55 lb/min.

They must have been confused ... You sure you didn't accidentally ask them about the 3052? Lol the regular 3065 is a 65/min I believe the 3582 was rated around 70-72 or so when they originally introduced them.

Yeah the 3052 flows 55 lbs/min where the 3582 flows 70. I want to say the 3586 flows 80 lbs/min, correct me if I'm wrong.

With the price of an fp turbo you could also pick up an hx40 with a billet wheel and a very nice twin scroll manifold that will get at least 600hp with a very quick spool. Probably even have money left over to fill the tank. Just another choice.

Oh what was I thinking... Yeah OP, this 65lb/min turbo is going to send you into the 9's, heck, it's only 1.5 seconds faster than TSimage. I'll go ahead and give you the benefit of the down instead of acting like a d1ck like you did.

The way I read this thread is that the op wanted 600+ hp which is NOT an easy task with the 3065. Even if you look in our member 1/4mile list you'll see that the 2 or 3 that have went into the 9's were only pushing mid 500's as far as horsepower.

Totally agree with your last statement. Just so happens he has the awesome 3065. Anyways, to the OP. Do NOT make your decision based upon the advice given from someone who is trying to sell the turbo. They are trying to sell it, of course they're going to make it sound good. Not to knock on anyone. 600 seems a little much to achieve on a 3065, you could make it easier with a 35r. but like previously stated, you'll take longer to spool. So it depends on what youre looking for. Good luck with your build man, hope youre happy with whatever you decide to get! =]

That's another very good option. There's a guy that lives pretty close to me that runs the hx40. (talondave) =]

so obviously the 3065 flows well and the spool time is much faster than the 3582 but what if you compare the hta3582 to the 3065 with the hta upgrade? will the rpm's be close since they both have billet wheels? or no?

The HTA will spool similar if not slightly better and have more peak but if you are going to compare an HTA to something it needs to be to another HTA and there is an HTA version of the 3065 call the HTA 3082.

Thank you, 600 whp, after going though this thread with some knowledgeable people, does seem like a stretch on the 3065. For now, if I reach just below, it'll be better than what I have know which isn't much at all. I'll be content for now and definitely will make improvements as I go along. To me I see it as a learning game, not to mention I prefer to start off with a decently high goal and work my way to it.

i believe 3rd gear full boost but i could be wrong. i emailed FP and the guy had said that the 3065 with the HTA upgrade would make it a 3082 and flow 65lbs/min i dont know much about the hx40 i would assume it flows just as much for cheaper price

So, I'm about to have my Talon built up and going to purchase my turbo very soon. For the longest time I've been set on the 3065, but just recently have been really considering the 3082. My car will be mainly for street. Im also still undecided as to staying 2.0 or going 2.3. So since I'm now leaning towards the 3082, do you guys think that should do well on the street with a high reving 2.0? Or should I maybe step up to the stroker? I realize it probably comes down to personal preference, but I just want to know what you guys would do in my situation. I will have all supporting mods and other things like smim, 75mm tb, delta 272's, 1250cc bluemax FIC's (which I hope are big enough because I have already aquired them), DW 300lph fp, afpr, and many more. The engine will be fully built by MAP (stage II) and tuned with linkv3. The engine will be good for a lot more power but my goal is around 5 give or take and just to have a really fun street car. I also should say that I'm hoping to stay on 93 octane. Any advice/opinions you guys have for me would be greatly appreciated.

The 3082(HTA DSM82) should spool the same as the 3065 and make more power. Billet compressor wheels.. Awesome.

Well, if you have the funds for a 2.3, then why not? Perfect street motors, you'll have 3-400rpm better spool and the added torque would be nice to have for cruising around.. The only problem is they don't really like to be revved past 8,500rpm.

I wanted to bring this back, was wondering the same thing. Anyone have any experience with either turbo or both and care to share? Well if you are going to stroke it out to a 2.3 go with the HTA3582 or even better the GTX3582 from Garrett but the 2.0 with the HTA3082 will spool mad quick about 4k depending on what mods maybe around 3900 or 3800

It really depends, are you going to build the car? If so, why not buy what you want the first time. Nothing sucks more than having to buy the same parts because you didn't get what you wanted the first time.

I do highly recommend going stroker, I know I'll never go back. My FPRed flows like a dream and is very streetable. There are a couple things I'll be changing either this or next winter but for the most part I'm happy with everything in the car which is a plus.

i dont think you are considering that a stroker is going to have a signifigantly shorter life (in terms of milage) then a 2.0....
