I did a search and I didnt find much of what I was looking for as far as options for a FMIC, mostly just arguing over which one is better or cheaper or proven.

I would like to see you guys post what intercooler you have, any stats on it, pictures of it, pics of piping, how the install went, about how much it cost, impressions, gains, pros/ cons etc. I am interested in custom made kits as well as vendor puchased kits.

And please try not to bash another guy for what he has, lets keep it to posting your info and thats it.

I am sure if we can keep this civil it would be a great addition to the FAQ as it seems that everyone wants more real world info on FMIC kits.

I hope this thread stays within the rules and does everyone some good,

Thanks,

Hi,

I have the greddy 24R FMIC. It is a nice piece, but you have to trim a lot from your bumper insert and bumper itself. There is a guy on ebay store, I believe it's JR from extreme turbo systems. He has nice kits for reasonable prices. If I had to choice again, I will choice his kits. For 3 reasons, bigger piping then the greddy ones, better construction for less restriction and cheaper ($745) compared to the greddy $850-1000 for the 2G kit, depending where you get the kit. If you want I can sent you a word document with my install pictures and the comparison of the before and after.

I have the IRC core. You can check out a few pictures in my gallery, you have to trim quite a bit off of the 1g fb, but im not sure how it is for the 2g fb. None the less its a great FMIC. :thumb:

If you have pics I would like to see them in the post if possible. I am hoping to offer this as an FAQ to the moderators.

Thanks,
Ben

Keep them coming.

I have the ETS street core, it works great, quality top notch...and it was cheaper then any other IC kits I have seen

This kit is 750 for a 24x10x3 bar and plate core with 2.5" piping from the turbo to the upper pipe location, then the upper pipe is extra but its one of the straightest UICP iv seen for the2 with minimal bends in it.

Speed-design makes the kit i have here are some pictures, notice that in the speed-design kit the j-pipe flares on its way down and does not have that wierd all of a sudden bigger section, like others i have seen. Here are pictures.

This intercooler is awsome, i have no complaints with it at all. I have made many many dyno pulls repated and it does not heat soak. small 16g at 26psi with just fans ont he IC. And its stays cool. I also went 12.30@111 on this but that doesnt mean much just another fact and made 338awhp

i have the dejon tool racing fmic and i couldnt be happier. Its huge, its bar and plate , it has short route piping but the whole kit will set you back about 1000. Removal of power steering cooler and cutting in between the radiator and passenger headlight is necessary and u will also need a slim ac fan.
check www.dejontool.com for more info.

Keep them coming guys I know everyone could use this in the future :thumb:

i have a slow boy racing kit the intercooler is nice the piping is nice but have had a few fitment problems with the kit but for the price it is a great kit

i had the adfx kit with short route piping. drivers side fan got the boot. i had to cut the front bumper so that only the sides were left to support the fascia. umm, it worked like the dickens. i ran it on the 14b at first and then a PTE 57 trim. the 90 pipe from the turbo to the 1st intercooler pipe didnt fit AT ALL. i had to go to summit for some pipe to make my own. i was able to run 20 psi on pump on the 57 trim (91 octane over here:() and it looked MEAN. i sold the car but now i got another AWD and got the darkside racing kit. looks to be almost the exact same thing. nice kit. i love the look of the extrude tube cores.

I am in the market for a FMIC but there are a few things I must have:

1. KEEP MY 98 FOG LIGHTS
2. FILL THE ENTIRE MOUTH OF THE BUMPER.

I dont really care about cutting and such but I want those two things.

Are there any kits that bolt up that fullfill my needs?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff Jeske

I got the JR FMIC off ebay. 30"x7"x2.8". Fills my bumper about perfect. Haven't gotten beads on the piping yet to see if it flows better than my small greddy did, but for $300 for the IC and $50 worth of pipes from Summit, I can't complain at all. :thumb:

Where's a good place to buy intercooler cores? I am looking to get a Spearco 216 core or something comparable and make my own piping.

I have the early Dejon Tool Race FMIC with it's 28x10x3 dimensions. The early FMIC was of an extruded tube and fin type core. It was $900 + shipping ($15) to my door. The kit was complete. It arrived 2-3 days after I ordered it with the piping painted to my specification. I received the 90* metal elbow from the compressor housing (if using a "downflow" style turbo), a LICP, lower-UICP with a BOV flange of my liking (Type-S) and a second UICP that was a one piece with the T/B elbow. The only "not so good" thing is the thickness of the T/B elbow flange. Although it may not break, it's easily warped if you are not careful when torquing it down. This leads to boost leaks. Just make sure it's nice and flat. If you have problems with it bending/warping, use a bench vice. :thumb:

Back to the kit. I liked the fact that I did not have to get an aftermarket fan to run this size core on my car. Even with a 14B/16G style turbo, you can use the stock fan with Dejon's J-pipe. Excellent craftmanship for all their pieces. I only have the radiator fan (no AC) and my car has never overheated EVER!!! even during the hottest summers. The fins on the FMIC are very sturdy (don't easily bend) and allow maximum airflow through the fmic to the radiator. I did eliminate the AC condensor and looped the PS line. Easy things to do. However, I ditched my bumper support. I just didn't see the point of re-installing it hacked to hell. Otherwise, no regrets with its performance. It will be 2 years this coming spring with it on my car. I highly recommend it. :) Here is what it looks like on my car. I currently do have it stealthy coated. :thumb:

Kris, call Pro Drag, I believe they are a dealer of Turbonetics/Spearco. Or, check the sponsors on this site, many of them carry Spearco cores.

I will be going with the FP 'street' intercooler. I like the idea of baffles to direct the air flow through the core better.

I will have to give Blaine a call and see on some pircing. I was also looking at forced performace's site and there street core seem nice, I only wish the inlet/outlet came in parallel and not perpendicular. Does anyone know the dimensions on there race core?

I just found this kit today and wow, it seems like an awesome one. The endtanks look great and they should flow really well. It has a pretty steep price tag but would most likely be worth every penny.

Thank you, It wasnt really my find I saw it in another post but anyway I read that article posted about intercooler flow etc. It stated that the desing of the endtanks is very important for flow and showed some nice little charts and it makes sense. It looks like this guy took the time to design some that would flow really really good.
