Flywheel resurfacing

Yes you can reuse your flywheel when resurfaced. I do not understand your second question... How did the flywheel rub on the t-case???

Some bolts came loose on his bell housing and did some damage to the clutch assembly from what he's told me.

^yes but the clutch assembly was fine, just old. I know you can reuse after resurfacing obviously, I'm asking if resurfacing is absolutely necessary.

If you want the clutch to properly operate, yes it's necessary. The only way to be sure the step height is correct is to measure it. measure before you leave the machine shop. If they won't grab a depth mic and show you then you need another machine shop. If you don't tell them what to do they usually take equal amounts off the surface and the steps but NOT ALWAYS. You are responsible for verifying the height, not them. Their job was resurfacing unless you told them specifically what depth you wanted.

If there is any wear or hard spots or blue marks on the surface it should be surfaced.
