I have an engine that is possibly a jdm (bought the car used with a broken balance shaft belt that caused 2 broken valves and the rest hitting the pistons)

first flywheel is off the replacement engine which the pistons and flywheel are mark the same, 63DT

next is the flywheel from the broken engine/tranny that is mark 63D4D

the usdm flywheel is about 11 inches, the "jdm" flywheel is about 10.5 inches which is smaller and the usdm starter is not able to turn and crank the engine.

Does anybody know what starter can i get to make this work? Again I am not sure if this is even a JDM engine. The simple solution would be to get a usdm tranny but no funds to get one at this time, the car came with the "jdm" engine/tranny and it is AWD, 1990.

Thanks in advance....

Just an FYI, I've searched and have not found much info on the printed "63D4D". Someone said on dsmtalk that is a 1.8liter flywheel, have you found out anything?

EDIT: Well RRE's website says that an AWD flywheel doesnt have that hump, whereas the FWD does. I went outside since I have a confirmed AWD 6 bolt flywheel and they are exactly the same, one just has 63DT4 and the other has 63D4D. Here the website and a few threads to back it up-

I know this is an old one but I found it while researching 6 different flywheels that I own and thought my info might help some one else.
The 63D4D is from a 1.6L or 1.8L motor I have a 1.6l better know as a 4G61 It has a 1.8L head on it (Yes they build them that way) The head is the exact same as a 2.0L turbo except for smaller cams and combustion chambers.

Now back on topic LOL...The following Flywheel casting #'s decoded:

63DT 6Bolt Turbo FWD Weight: unknown to me.

63D4D 1.6l or 1.8l ie. 4G61 Engine. Weight 28lbs 400g

63DT4 6Bolt Turbo AWD Weight: 27lbs 800g up to 28lbs 700g

G3D 6Bolt Non Turbo.Larger center hole for a pilot bearing. Weight: 25lbs 700g

All will bolt up to a 4g61 or 4G63 crank but I don't know what the out come would be so beware ;)
