I was wonderin if someone knew how to flush out all of the dirty anti freeze in order to put new anti freeze.

My Anti-Freeze looks very dark and i dont want to use those flushing kits because you have to cut hoses. :barf:

Could some one give me a procedure how to rinse all of that out of the engine

or

Will have to go to a mechanic :(

thanks :sosad:

On 1g's there is a radiator drain plug on the bottom right-hand side of the radiator (you can get to it easily by feeling underneath the driver's side wheel well. It's a little round plastic screw with a long square piece on the end, making it pretty easy to turn by hand, usually.

Just drain all the fluid out, then run clean water from the garden hose through the thermostat housing until the water runs relatively clear out the drain plug. Replace drain plug. Refill. Squeeze hoses to let out trapped air. Replace radiator cap. Good as new.

no need for the commercial Radiator Flush stuff unless you have a blockage or need to find the source of a coolant leak. Good old H2O will do the trick.

But since i'm already here, I couldn't leave without saying this:
Your coolant shouldn't be TOO dark....If it's really super old, then it's possible. But are you sure it's not oil? If you have oil in your coolant (or coolant in your oil), then you've got yourself a leaking HG. Might want to check that out. Just take a good look at the coolant that you drain out, and post back here if you notice anything weird....Take a pic, and someone (probably me, haha) will be able to tell you how bad it looks.

I've had about everything possible go wrong with my cooling system...I can tell you how to take the whole damn thing apart, bolt by bolt if need be. LOL.

Good luck :dsm:

I have another question to put here. I starting flushing my radiator a while ago maybe a month and a half ago. The thing is I used flush but I left it in there for 3 weeks! Since then my engine head has cracked (i think). Anyway after the damage was I done i completed the flush using the hose technique. My question is could leaving the flush in there be a cause for any of the damge to my engine? or any other parts of the car?

Why on earth would you leave engine flush solution in you car for 3 weeks???
WTF

Did you forget it was in there? LOL.
Anyway...I can't see how that in itself could cause a cracked HG. There have to be other contributing factors....Unless the amount of fluid (engine cleaner) running through your radiator was so low that your engine overheated enough to blow the head gasket...
Coolant capacity (in a 1g turbo) is almost 2 gallons (don't know what it is on a 2g), and if you were running on straight engine cleaner solution (a normal bottle is, what, half a gallon or so?) you are running a serious risk of damaging your engine.
So yes, I guess it is possible that leaving the solution in there for that long could have been a major factor in your engine's demise....But I suspect that it would have given you some warning at least before it crapped out...... ?
Let that be a lesson to you! LOL

Engine cleaners/Rad. flush solutions are to be used as directed!!!! haha

Good luck man ;) :tease:
