This all started the other day when i went and put gas in my car. Pulling out of the gas station i hit about 15lbs and the car started misfiring, CEL came on. Since then i changed the coilpack, wires, plugs; disconnected my SAFC(my ecu is chipped). Idle actually improved with the SAFC uninstalled but misifiring started around 3500-4000 rpms.

My TPS is kinda hacked. The previous owner didn't connect anything electrical the right way. He used three spades to sort the harness into the TPS.

So tonight i went to crank my car and BOOF, shot a flame out my dumptube TWICE. Now the car won't turn over at all. Could this be a result of timing, tuning, or just plain old electrical PITA?

I atleast want this car to run decent before i link it. Any thoughts, suggestions, flaming, go ahead. I need all the advice i can get.

Wow haha. That sounds kinda cool. Anyways you need to adjust your fuel maps as stated. I dont hear of this happening very often id DSM's.

More importantly, why would his dump tube be open at start/idle when the car is drawing full vac? Sounds like you have a boost/vac leak. It definitely would cause some/all of the symptoms your car is exhibiting. What "chipped" ECU are you running? Your tune could also have a part in why the car is running rich, but a BLT and a good visual inspection might be all you need to remedy your problem.

I have an AFC as well and it sounds like when you had taken your AFC off it needs to be 1, put back on because, from what it sounds like is that it was adding fuel in the later rpms and taking it away in the lower rpms and when you took it off it essentially changed the fuel maps so what I would do is after you put it back on follow what road race enginneering has to say about them on their website and how to set them up (that is if you don't know how to use it) and then see what happens, hope this helps.

Would a boost/vaccum leak really cause me to run that pig rich before my car cranks over? I have an EPROM with a chip for my injectors/MAF. Previous owner had it installed.

I don't agree with a boost/vacuum leak being the cause of this and I am very confused about the whole flame out the dumptube thing.WTF

If you were simply running rich I would think you would get a flame out the tailpipe if anything. :hmm: If you actually had a flame come out your dumptube that would mean that your wastegate would have to be stuck open.

In fewer words that's what I'm trying to say.

To the OP, your tune is one way your car could run rich before you crank. And the more I think about it, a boost leak would explain the stuttering, but you are building (and holding?) sufficient boost as well. I am really at a loss as to why you have flames coming out of your dump tube.

Could it be that the wastegate isn't necessarily stuck open but not closing fully? this would allow a flame to shoot out depending on the exposion as well as keep from letting the car build boost. I would just check to see if the wastegate is fully shut.

Good point on the wastegate. If you are positive that the flame did indeed come out of the dump tube, visually inspect the wastegate to see if it fully closing. I could not see a flame ignition having enough pressure behind it to open the wastegate and allow a flame to blow out of your dump tube.
