I've been slowly restoring my 91 Talon and took it out yesterday for a couple of wide open throttle runs to see how she feels.
The first couple of pulls were great. I had my boost set at 12psi, there was no knock and the car felt pretty good considering it has been sitting off and on for 10 years.
Later in the day I took her out again. The first WOT pull was ok, but the next one wasn't. I got through 1st and 2nd gear fine, but as I got into the upper RPM's of 3rd gear the knock gauge shot up and the car started to shake pretty bad. I'm still trying to rethink the scenario over again to figure out if the car shook first and then the knock gauge pegged or vise versa. Obviously, after I saw the gauge peg, I immediately backed off the throttle, but the car was still shaking. It almost felt like a tire out of balance. The car was shaking and so was the steering wheel, so I nursed her back to my shop and parked it. I never felt the car break up or sputter when it started to knock.
It's going to be a few days before I can dig into the problem, but I would like to hear everyones thoughts. I read a thread about engine/car shaking induced knock, but it seemed no one really had a solid opinion on this.
What do you all think?
