hey guys
i went to the dyno for the first time yesterday and i must say i'm a bit disapointed.. i have lots of data though and several questions that i was hoping you guys would be willing to help with.

i have attached my final dyno graph. 256HP to the front wheels with my mods seemed low to me..
EVO3 16G @ 20PSI
580CC injectors
190LPH fuel pump
FMIC
full 2.5" turbo back.. o2 eliminator, test pipe, catback.
ngk bpr7es plugs.. 6 weeks old or so

Compression is still good..
172 - 162 - 170 - 165

this was a 4th gear pull.. 2000-7000rpm

Enviromental conditions:
81degreesF
29.87 in Hg
30% humidity

now my questions...
a) they wanted to adjust my AFR so that it was at about 12:1.. i asked for more like 11.5:1 because i was under the impression that 12 was getting fairly agressive and my motor lasting is more important to me..

b)why does my fuel ratio dip just after 4.5krpm? they played with the AFC but were only able to get the dip to move up and down...

c) why am i still so lean under 3000rpm? is this normal AFR off boost?

d) and most importantly... i was logging during the runs and this is my log for the last run... this seems to show me an aweful lot of knocking.. what's the deal? which is right? timing being pulled or the wideband O2?

the guys at the shop thought my AFC might have been advancing my timing too far.. they suggested i find a way to adjust my base timing. anybody agree/disagree? and how would i adjust my timing considering i have one of the few early 2G blocks with the damn CAS burried in the block, not up on the valve cover.. i don't think that the MDS DIS's will play with timing will they?

thanks for all the help guys.. much appreciated

any suggestions would be very well taken.. my goal was 300-320whp

Thanks!

that's a pretty small mod list to me... how about adding a ported 2g manifold, 2.5" o2 housing and how about a 3" exhaust..? :thumb:

wow that was fast. i was just editing the mod list.. i have a full 2.5" exhaust. stock manifold (which i would have thought would be fine for 300whp)

stock 2g manifold is good for well more than 300whp.

But to me it looks like you are getting knock, with timing pulled down in the single digits. you "should" be getting around 18-24degrees between 6500-7000.

Maye i ask what % you are leaned out on your afc?

Also turn for 11.5ish NO LEANER unless on race gas.

^^ where should i be for an AFR between 2 and 3k rpm? does my fuel curve look ok there or no?

my safc settings after leaving dyno yesterday:
2000: -18
2200: -10
2800: -12
3200: -19
3400: -20
4000: -24
4400: -28
5200: -34
5800: -33
6400: -32
7000: -32
7600: -30

hey guys

i just took a couple runs and changed my safc settings as follows
2000: -18
2200: -10
2800: -12
3200: -19
3400: -20
4000: -23
4400: -27
5200: -32
5800: -31
6400: -29
7000: -30
7600: -30

this gave me the following log:
3128 10
3304 7
3476 3
3696 5
3936 7
4204 7.5
4448 9
5272 10.5
5524 11.5
5728 12.5
5972 12.5
6152 13.5
6772 15.5
6956 14
7108 14
7244 14.5
7384 15.5
7512 15.5

i then changed 3400 to -19 and 7000 to -29 but did not make a last run.

looks better
feels about the same. perhaps a little faster.

Yeah your timing is brutal. With 580cc injectors your AFC settings should be somewhere around -20/-25 at most. -30 is a LOT taken out.

With 9 degrees of advance your car is going to perform like ass. 20 degrees will feel like a madman in comparison! Trust me, I have mad phantom knock, and the difference between "knock" pulling the timing down below 10 and not, is the difference between losing to a station wagon and smoking an 03 cobra.

As far as base timing, it should be 5*, don't mess with it at this point, but do check it to make sure it is correct, it can wreak havoc on all other tuning.

alright, thanks for the advice guys

i'll work on that tonight

also, i still havn't got an answer on my sub-3k fuel.. any thoughts?

also, anyone think that fuel dip around 4.5 is weird?

thanks

Depends on where the TPS and aiflow are at. I would guess you are just getting on it then, so I would attribute it to that. You aren't under boost, might be at WOT and have airflow around 500-600? Could be the cause for the leanness. Get a log including TPS and airflow and see what's going on up to 3k. You won't have the AFR, so you won't be able to do a direct comparison, but I bet that's what you find. If it's good or not I don't know, though, sorry. Isn't cruising 14.5:1? Looks like you are even leaner than that...I'll try to find out more for ya!

actually all of the dyno runs we started WOT right at 2k.. maybe a smidge after. but it's deffinitely WOT
i'm not sure on airflow, i'll see if i can check that out (can't remember if my logger will show that.. and it'll be affecte by my safc, but still.. i'll check)

thanks for the reply!
