Ok, so I finally broke down and bought a datalogger and SAFCII. The following is a log of a third gear uphill pull BEFORE the installation of the SAFCII. Bear in mind I have an auto so it's easing into WOT as quick as I can without making it kick down. Basically I'm new to this and have only a vague idea of what I'm doing I read the article in the tech section and have the th points set at 30 and 80, everything is set to zero at the current point. I need advice on where to start and what ne points you guys think are best. I have them right now at the 1000 rpm increments and just dumped the remaining ones into revs the car never sees.

At this point I ran out of road and was going way too fast for the posted speed limit ;) I'm running a 14B at a shade over 15psi I think the cold may have saomething to do with it as it was dead on at 15. Am I able to up the boost if I richen it up some in the upper rpms? I'll get another log tomorrow with airflow but I think I should be able to get maybe 17 before it starts blowing hot air? ANY advice is highly appreciated!

I normally set the Ne points as you did, but I use the extra points in the area where your turbo reaches full spool. That is the most likely place for you to knock.

The log looks good, but you are getting a little knock around 5800 - 6200rpms. I would add about 2 or 3% in that area and make another pull. Other than that, it looks good. For your next log, can you add airflow so we can see how much air you are pushing.

Oh, one other thing, did you verify that your TPS reads 100% at WOT? As for upping the boost, that's going to be something that we need to look at airflow to determine. Unless your profile is out of date, it looks like you are running the stock fuel system, so you need to be careful.

TPS reads 98%, and unfortunately I'm on the stock fuel system, I'm out of money again LOL so it's going to be awhile before I can upgrade. On my way out now to make another pull. One quick question about the SAFC, you said add 2 or 3% around 5800-6200, should I add an nepoint at 6200 and put the fuel in there?

Ok here's the new log, is it alright that I'm easing into the throttle in third to keep it from kicking down or is it giving me flawed results??

Tuning an automatic is always harder than a 5-speed, so there will be some differences between your log and other logs. You don't have to add another Ne Point at 6200, you can just use the one at 6k.

On your most recent log, did you add any fuel around 6k? I would add about 2% at both 5k and 6k if you haven't already. You are still leaning out in that area and I am suspecting that you might be running out of fuel. You can try and richen it up a little more, but if you continue to have that problem, you may want to drop your boost down 1psi and try again.

What is your correction value at 6 & 7k? I need that to calculate your unmolested airflow. We can get a better idea of how close you are to maxing out the injectors. Is your fuel pump rewired?

No idea what a correction value is LOL. And the pump isn't rewired. I put fuel in at the wrong spot last time and fixed it this time, going out to make another log, I'll post back in about 20

You mean the SAFC setting?? Told ya I'm new at this LOL. Anyway here's the new log, talk about inconsistent results, it has to be the easing into WOT that's causing this.

OMG Where did the airflow numbers go??? ;)

This might make it easiest.

1) Post up all of your Ne Points and corresponding correction values so I can take a look at them.

2) Make another pull, logging TPS, timing, rpm and airflow. That way we can see exactly where you are going WOT.

3) Get a 3rd log where you just go WOT and let the car kick down, just for comparison.

That's probably going to be the easiest.

Oh, did you do all the normal pre-tuning stuff, like plug gap, leak check, etc.?

Edited above post to include airflow, probably will do another boost leak test tomorrow just to make sure, plugs are brand new NGK and properly gapped, but I'll check just to make sure.
SAFC is set at 1K 2K 3K 4K 4.6K 5K 5.8K 6.2K
zeroed out all the way across until 5.8 which is +3 and 6.2 which is +4, I have to work 4 till 2:30 in the morning so it'll probably be tomorrow before I can get another log for you.

This is another log I made on the way home of just smashing it and running up to about 95mph.

I'm getting ready to leave work in a couple of minutes, so I'll get back with you tomorrow morning. I'll also go through the calculations and see if you are running out of fuel. The second log actually looks OK. I'm guessing that's a 1st, 2nd, 3rd run? The only think I'm seeing is that the timing goes to 0 when the car shifts, but it jumps right back up where it should be when the next gear engages.

Can any of the automatic guys jump in here and let me know if thats normal? I would guess that it is because of what the timing does at the next data point corresponding to the gear engagement. Barring that, I'm going to say it looks good. :thumb:

All autos do that, the only way to retain timing through gear changes is with DSMlink :( And yes that was a 1-3 run. I was in drive w/o o/d on and just smashed it to the floor :D I'm starting to think that's actually a better way to tune the car being as that's the way it's going to be run, but I could be wrong, would be nice for some auto guys to chime in here.

That's what I figured by looking at the logs. I agree about tuning with a 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear pull. When you attempt to keep the car in the same gear, your logs are very inconsistent. I would just keep with the "smash and go" that you did with the last pull.

I'll run some numbers for you later this morning.

Alright, here is what I come up with.

At 15lbs of boost, 93 octane fuel a base pressure of 43psi and an AFR of 11.3:1

Stock Fuel Pump (New) can support 30.40lbs/min of air.

Stock injectors (450cc) at peak performance can support 32.29lbs/min airflow at 100%IDC. Seeing that it isn't recommended to push your injectors past 80% IDC, you can only support 25.83lbs/min air at that IDC.

You are pushing about 26.35lbs/min of air in your latest log corrected from 27lbs/min. So, it looks like you are running a little higher than the recommended 80% IDC. You could push them harder, but I wouldn't if I were you. Looks like your tune is good for now until you get a chance to upgrade the fuel system. :thumb:

So I shouldn't try and lean it out anywhere to try and coax some more timing out of it?? I just want an excuse for spending alot of money on this SAFC LOL. :D Going out to make a couple more runs right now, I'll post back in a few hours.

You could lean it out a percent across the entire Hi throttle map, but I don't know that you are going to see a big difference. Don't worry about spending the money on the SAFC, it will come in handy when you slap in some new injectors and start cranking down on the MBC. :sneaky:
