in a 1g passenger side? i dont really want to drill a hole but if i have to i will

As a stereo equipment installer we always drilled our own hole, found it to be cleaner, and easier access without routing around the steering column.

Yes I have, Right below the battery. It will go into the car just above or right at where the carpet begins on the passenger side. You can then run the wire under the trim all the way back.

what about if you don't have a/c you can go through that opening behind the battery right?

Have you drilled one in a DSM, or tried to? If so, reveal the secret location.

I also have a hold drilled below the battery (a previous owner had a stereo system in the car). Here's a picture - it's the hold with the bright red wire running through it.

Referring to the title of this thread; why would speaker wire ever need to travel through the firewall? Unless, of course, it is audio power wire that you're referring to....

I use the same spot as shown in post #9. In my previous 2G, I had 0-gauge power wire running through there and underneath the carpet just fine. I've never needed to drill the firewall on a 2G.

On my car I have 6-Gauge wire running through the firewall that I drilled out. My location was mid car behind the stero headunti near where the shifter cables go through. if you remove all the side paneling you can see a section of metal there you can drill through. It was kind of a pain in the ass but it made runnging the rest of the system much easier. Under the console and under the rear carpeting and up through the seatbuckle assembly holes where the seats are folded down and I have my subwoofer mounted to the inside metal of the car. It was a bunch of custom work.

For most people, if you are just using two amps one for your sub(s) and one for your Mid/Highs 4ga wire that goes to a distribution block and branches out with 8ga to each amp is more than enough to do the job. I could see where if you were running more amps in your system you would want to beef up the wire a little bit. There is no need to go overkill on it though. 1ga is a little excessive. Just my opinion.

BTW to the original question, don't run your wire through the steering linkage boot. That just looks tacky and you always have the problem with your wire getting caught on the throttle linkage. Plus you always have to see it when you step into your car. Just drill yourself a new hole and run your wire through it. Put some rubber grommets around your new hole to keep your wire from touching the bare metal and shorting out.

You could put some wire looms and run it with one of the wires in the engine bay. It would look cleaner

There's wire loom around it now. It's just that picture was easier to see the hole, since I have the wire loom running right up to the hole (as well as a rubber grommet around the inside of the hole).

I ran 2gauge power from my battery. I ran it underneath the car then into one of the grommets under my rear seat (spyder), then into the trunk. And I know somebodys going to say, "Oh thats a bad idea", or "Oh thats not safe, your going to catch your car on fire", or something like that, because obviously everything I say is a bad idea, or wrong or something.
Anyway I secured it underneath the car with these plastic cable holder thingys, they loop around the cable and have a screw hole in them. I secured them to the inside of the inner metal lip running along the bottom of the car, like behind the sideskirts. Hard to explain but it works.
This is the exact same way I secure LED/neon tubes undercars, when I do lighting installs.

We drilled my hole for my amp power right under my battery. Came out for easy hookup. That is in a 2G BTW.
