yeah but still no specific info how to access the HVAC lights, still haven't figured mine out

Well I ordered the LEDs SPECIFIC to the bulb which seems like a much smarter/easier idea I will see how that guys whenever I get the shipment in.

there are no hvac lights - just one big bulb that can be accessed fron the top if you remove the vent piece. No need to remove the entire cluster. One radioshack 2600mcd blue LED worked great for me.

But please, folks, can't we just close this thread? Hasn't it had enought? Don't worry, the info will be compiled into a tech article soon - but please quit bringing it back...

The HVAC is easy, it's just one bulb. Remove the A/C switch and its right below it.

Ok guys I know you want this thread dead but I want to show those of you who didn't believe me about just replacing the LED's with the 74 LED that is now sold. It will save you at least 3 hours and it's a lot easier to do. Here is the finished product:

So what do I have to buy to make the dash lights blue to match my blue alpine cd player? Will the dimmer still work ok? How will this look with the 99 white faced gauges? Thanks.

No stupid comment posts please...

You better get to reading every single page on this thread. I did, and understood, that's how I did my HVAC panel and the fog light switch/mirror bezel. :dsm:

No. There hasn't been a compiled writeup of a how-to. However, it's not rocket science, just read this thread form begining to end and it'll be perfectly clear.

Curious if anyone with a 1g that has done it could help ..

im buying bulbs from autolumination.com or what ever .. and i was curious if someone with a 1st gen could help me let know what bulb #'s to use and how many to buy if they have already ordered theirs..

Im changing mine red .. i want to change

The gauges in the cluster.. Hvac (leaving the AC still blue but a blue LED) .. ignition ring, lighter ring ..

Does anyone remember off hand the bulb # and the quanity they bought to save me the time of tearing everything down and counting them.

Thanks Luke

does anybody know how airpoppoff did his gauges? i set him a pm and he never replied. i think he said he used reverse glow gauges (pages 5 and 6 of this thread) can someone help me out? thanks :thumb:

ALRIGHT for anyone that still has ANY questions regarding this thread is super retarted....YOU NO LONGER have to sit there and solder LED's (if you do your a dumb ass and need to be beaten)...Here is your solution and quick fix to this MOD:
http://autolumination.com/leds.html
They have the exact bulb replacements you would need and they are LED's....They even have more colors then RadioShack. I know re-killed this thread!

do not get the blue ones because they are not bright at all!! been waiting for a tech article for over a year on this but still none...maybe that's why this thread never dies!

OK, i CANNOT find any of the reverse glow guages with a black face...I dont want a white face on my car, that looks HORRIBLE. Please help...

You probably got the a low level blue one.

red is MUCH easier to get a higher brightness.. Brightnesses of 8000mcd, 10000mcd are common and make gauge replacement easy. With blue, i've found, it's hard to find as bright (manly because that wavelength of light is hard to produce from LEDs) so they have to be solderred in so that they can be focused.

i just bought a crapload of 6000 mcd 5mm Ultra Bright BLUE LEDs from Hosfelt Electronics. Gonna put them in this weekend. They're only $2 each.
