Hey guys.. I'm in the middle of a rebuild and was thinking about dropping in some cams.. I know everyone swears by HKS but.. I am still considering my options.. FFWD Cams have a decent price.. I know they are reground and all but is it REALLY that huge of a deal? They look very appealing.. since my budget isn't Donald Trump big.. I want to get the L2

They say-
A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT OUR CAMS: There has been some talk within forums and whatnot that these cams are "spray welded" or exhibit some other cheap crap done to them during the regrind process. These cams are NOT welded on and are just as hard on the outside as they are on the inside. The grinding process does not detract from its surface hardness. Period.

In fact, cams that have already been run for years and years (such as in regrinds), have proven themselves in longevity whereas the brand new stuff, might have manufacturing flaws within the casting or billet that will certainly rear its ugly head during useage.
------------
Also it comes with a full 1 year warranty..Sooo

Anyone have any experience with them?

I just installed a set of DKS2 cams. My car idles almost like stock with an occational stumble. It doesn't sound anything like the car above (although I like the way that car sounds). I lost some lowend but topend is awesome.

Did you use shims too?

I have a question, if these cams are so good, why dont they use them on their own motors? Looks like they use HKS cams on their motors.

No, they came with the shims but I didn't use them. The instructions say some cars need them some don't. You check the amount of lifter travel aginst the base circle of the cam. When the lifter is fully extended, if it feels loose then use the shims. If its not loose then you probably don't need them. I do have a bit of lifter noise for the first few minutes after startup, (was not there before the cam install). Maybe I should have used the shims or maybe its from the more aggressive cam profile, not sure. I'm not too worried about it, as the ticking goes away after about 5 mins.

Its fine, mine does the same thing. Don't worry about it.:thumb:

For starters im sick of posts of people with bone stock cars saying they recommend one thing over another when they have never used ethier ROFL . No names mentioned. Second these cams are half the price of hk$ and ffwd products have made huge numbers on our cars. I have yet to hear anything but good stuff about these guys especially their block and head work they do.:thumb: Try them out i'm sure i will.

i looked around for this and couldnt find anything...im bout to pick up the L2's....now it does say that you need stiffer springs....i have crower springs right now...do ya'll think these are stiff enough???

Yes, they should be fine.

My order is getting placed within the next few days..
Great man, you'll love them. FFWDConnection has great customer service as well, one of the few places that will actually call you back.

This is very true, FFWD's customer service is the best. Definetly the best buying experience I have ever had with any DSM shop. Darren went above and beyond to get my cams shipped out when I needed them.

well they are out of stock at ffwd connection...so i ordered them from extreme psi...they were pretty much the same price...just a few dollars more at extremepsi....but ive heard good things about the L2's...figured i would stick with what i wanted...

Well, I've also had very good dealings with ExtremePSI, so you're going to be taken care of.
Even if you would have gotten the DKS 272's, it would have been a great mod.

Update on the cams? How are these holding up? I'm very close to purchasing them but I was just curious about the difference between the L2s and the DKS 272s? Which would be better to get? Which has the more of a "rumpidy rump" idle (I love the sound).. Any other differences? Can the L2s be dropped in like the DKSs? Thanks a lot. :thumb:

My cams are still doing great.

The L2's are a little more aggressive and will require stronger valve springs. The 272's will still perform great, and can also be installed without the stronger springs. Obviously the L2's will lope more, but the 272's will still have a simular effect.

Would Manely springs w/ titanium retainers be effecient enough? or should I go SI Dual spring? I don't plan on revving past 9500 (eventually)

Manely springs with titanium retainers IMO will be just fine. But I don't want to step on any toes here, so if you want a definate answer, call Darren at FFWD.

I bought the mad valve spring set from Darren and a built bottom end.A thing of beauty I must say.! My only worry is the use of titanium retainers on my daily driven car.I heard that they are best for track use only. Daily driving can make them brittle over time and cause valvetrain failure. So I'm wondering if the steel mitsu retainers would wrk on these springs.Any comments?

I also heard that these (MAD)valve springs give you more seat pressure than ferrea's so you can rev away!:thumb: Like I said,I'm only worried about using titanium retainers on a daily driven car.

Ordered mine as well. Since people are a little skeptical (me included), I will be doing back to back dyno's with these. I travel A LOT with my job, so this won't be done until April. But when I do, I will post what I get. I expect them to do find, but still curious exactly what kind of gains could be expected with these.
