pull the piston first.. you may have buted ring lands.. has the car run lean/hot?

if you can not catch a finger nail on it.. and can live with a lil oil smoke ot the tail pipe.. you may be able to hone n go.. (backyard/cheap fix)

The scratch doesn't stop my nail but you can notice its there. I have never done anything related to shortblock work so i'm lost on disassembling it in the car and no lift to get it out. Car ran dead in center on temp gauge everytime driving until head gasket went and made top radiator hose come off. The temp got to 3/4 range but not at top. Shop working on my head said it was a tin bit warped but not bad at all.

What does butted ring lands mean ?

sorry, busted ring lands. you should pull the pistons out and look for cracks in the piston between the rings

a blown head gasket is not the cause of a problem, but a result of one.

Do NOT let the machine shop belt surface your head!!

how your head should be surfaced...
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/new...face-4g63t-cylinder-head-mls-head-gasket.html

the head should be measure for thickness befor and after it is milled, New thickness is 5.200 with a min thickness of 5.185, if your head is below min thickness, get a thicker head gasket to restore it to between 5.200 and 5.185

with the head off you may want to do this oil mod..

Yeah you might have busted a ring land to have that much vertical marking.

There is only one way to make things right, pull the pistons out and inspect them.

Replace what is broken, and hone and rering the block... on the cheap.

Or 100% would be overbore pistons, new rings, bore and hone the block.

Replace bearings... gaskets, pulleys, waterpump.... it will be a ton of 50-100 dollar parts but you will have a 100% engine.

once the head is off... get under the car, drop the oil pan... then thre 2 nuts per rod, remove the nuts and push the rod/piston out, do not beat on the rod, if needed take a long extention and tap the piston out from the underside of the piston. KEEP the cap with the rod DO NOT MIX UP!!

You can also get a short stick from a paint roller or anything else wooden that will fit up the bore to the bottom of the piston. That way you can tap on it without any risk of damage.

Alright i guess I'm gonna give it a shot and check the other walls as well. So will it be fine to just turn the crank and get cyl 2&3 to the bottom and check those walls with the head off as well. I plan on marking the crank and oil pump sprocket to make sure i get it back to tdc.

yes with the head off you can rotate the engine over with out issues
