Hello, first off i would just like to say that i have been searching for almost a week now, everyday and i still can't find the answers im looking for so please don't just say "search". Alright, now to the scenario. I just got my evo3 16g, rc 550's, fmic, greddy type-s bov, walbro 190, installed. I also have a 3 in cat back, 2.5 downpipe, ported o2 housing, ported manifold, intake. I also have a/f gauge, egt gauge, boost gauge, pocketlogger, and s-afc. So i got it all installed and started it up and everything. I've been working on it for like a week trying to figure things out and fix things. I've blown pipes off, which i've fixed and all the piping's fine now. But there's a few things that I think are wrong with it. For one, i used to not be able to control my boost, it would just sky rocket. Then on another run, it went to like 7-10 psi and would like stutter and jerk (maybe fuel cut?) I actually figured that out, so now it doesn't do that anymore (don't know how exactly i fixed it) Still some problems though. I still think my boost is going to high (into the 20's) without a boost controller, just relying on the wastegate of my evo3. the wastegate opens, i tested it on my aircompressor and it opens at something like 15psi. so i know that's not the problem. I am going to make a boost leak tester and do a test and fix the leaks that i may have. Also, my coolant temp is insane at like 240 and rising which threw my CEL. also, my timing was at like 30 deg while i was cruisng around, and like 6 at idle. I don't know how bad those numbers are, cause i'm just getting into DSM's. My stft is at like 5-17% and my ltft is at like 12%. So i know that isn't good. My rear o2 sensor is also done, but i didn't think that would have this big of an effect. Please let me know what you guys think could be my problem(s). Especially the controlling the boost and coolant temp. Thanks.

DO NOT LET YOUR CAR RUN THAT HIGH!!!! You will blow a headgasket and have much bigger problems bro

well, I just did an evo3, 680s, dsmlink, walbro190, and boost controller on my car a few days. I shoot straight up to 20psi, even just running straight to the wastegate. problem: evo's creep, I have a thread around on this page with the same problems, see what others posted. You have to port the crap out of your turbo and exhaust housing (so do i) haha.

Did you refill the coolant? add water also? Look at your overheating first, thats the bigger problem right now IMO

1. It's always a good idea to group mods into related items and install them in stages to make troubleshooting easier.

2. A boost leak test is a must follow up after any work done to the intake tract, I suspect you probably have bunch of leaks.

3. Milk is right, you have boost creep.

4. Over heating: Check coolant level like mentioned above. Did you install slim fans? Removed ac fan? Which FMIC and size?

i have my stock radiator and all my fans in (all stock). my fmic is 20x10x2.5 also, before i put my turbo in, i ported it out. like a ton. i used the vfaq and the info on porting from this site. i opened everything up to match the inlet (of the exhaust housing) and removed the ring and all. also ported the crap out of it so you can see the wastegate entrance. and it wouldn't only go up to 20 psi. i mean, if i would have kept going, i would have reached 30 and really done some damage. i also ported my manifold and o2 housing before putting them back in. ported the manifold to gasket match the head and the 7cm housing of the turbo. then i ported the wastegate outlet hole (?) on the o2 housing and the bigger hole on the o2 housing to match up to the turbo. then i ported the other side of the o2 housing to 2.5 in to match my downpipe. but you're right, my problem right now is the temperature of the coolant. i just put a new engine in, that's the last thing i need is another blown engine. maybe external wastegate for me? (to control my boost creep) don't want to spend the money really, but if it'll do the job, i'll do it. and as for the overheating, maybe aftermarket radiator and new fans? or maybe a better tune? not really sure as to what to do. please help. thanks for those who helped above.

oh yeah, also, my bov flutters when i let off it. instead of a nice whooooooosh, it's like wo-wo-wo-woo. i don't know what this means, but i don't think it's right.

1. Do you have boost creep or all out boost?
Boost creep = hitting a lower level first then slowly creeps up as rpm increases.
All out boost = boost shooting straight up.

2. Which mbc and how is it hooked up?

3. Eliminating boost leaks should be your priority.

Sounds like the spring on the type S is to tight, you might be experiencing compressor surge.

alright, thanks for the help again, oldman. compressor surge? i'll try looking into it and what it means, but if not, can you tell me? sorry, i'm new. also, when i first hooked it up, the boost just shot straight up. now it seems like it hits 15 and stops for a second, but then rockets up into the 20's. but also, i kind of feather the throttle because i don't want to do serious damage. should i just got wot and see if it shoots straight up insane or if it creeps? or will that risk blowing something up? and, any ideas on the overheating problem? i don't even know where to begin :/ thanks again for your help so far.

I'm almost sure youre problems have something to do with the vaccum lines. My guess is that you're pinching one or even both of the lines. That fluttering is compressor surge. Basically since the air isn't being released via BOV it's trying to force your turbo to spin the other way! After i installed my evoiii my intake (injen replica) actually pinched the line going to the wastegate ending up with "unlimited boost" like you're having. Check and recheck your vaccum lines and make sure they aren't kinked.

The way I see it, several things needs to be done first.

1. You need to determine whether you have creep or out of control boost.

2. You need to tell us which mbc and how is it hooked up to the system in detail.

3. You need to re-adjust the tension on the typeS so that it would open and release air properly.

4. You need to perform that long over due boost leak test.

alright, now it's really toasted. i did the boost leak test and fixed all leaks, no pipes blow off anymore. i cleaned off my spark plugs and gapped them (until my ngk's and wires come in the mail) and i flushed and refilled my coolant (to try to maybe fix some of the overheating....which it didn't) then i took it out for some runs, and it backfires and sputters and all under boost. then it compeltely died out on me, we pushed it half way home, then filled it up with gas, just to make sure that wasn't the problem. it finally started, but now it blows white smoke out the back and backfires like crazy. i have no idea what to do, maybe take it to a mechanic, or take out all my parts and sell it in stock condition? please anyone let me know if you can think of anything that i can do. thanks
