I was removing my head to change out the head gasket and when i was taking off the timing belt, for some dumb ass reason, i did not align the timing marks or the dowels in the 12 o'clock position. I was at the bottom of the engine on the ground turning over the engine and aligned the sprocket, but nothing else. I marked the belt and when i took off the head, holy crap, it was not at top dead center it was at bottom dead center. So now i'm ####ed and don't know what to do, my buddy pulled the timing belt all the way off too.
How do i set the initial timing on the cams so i don't bend valves. I have rotated the engine so that #1 is TDC. I would guess that i would just align the timing marks and put the dowels in the 12 o'clock position.
What about the other things to align? how do i do those?
I have read the virtual FAQ, it is more for someone who had marked everything and had all the marks already aligned when the belt was taken off, but i kind of messed that up.
Hope someone can help me out.

to another... IF I understand this correctly YOU DIDN'T SPIN THE CRANK WITH THE TIMING BELT OFF - IF SO - You are cool - Sounds like your goal was just to get it positioned at a point where it was ready for re-installation BEFORE you pulled it - You failed miserably & were surprised when you pulled the Head.
