what to do [when replacing head gasket]

Hi guys
I dont know much and I wont pretend to but I bought a 1997 eagle talon it is the base model with no mods and I could use some advice. I have to replace the head gasket and the exhaust gasket and I am wondering what else should I replace in the engine. I cant really tell you if the engine is in good or bad shape but it has 140,000 miles on it and I want to make sure it runs like a champ. So I am open to all input and thanks in advance.

I would suggest a good solid tune up... plug wires...plugs...gas filter...pcv valve... etc ...get the wheels rotated and balanced...that could help your gas milage.. those are just some cheap things I would look into first

I would suggest finding what made the head fail(head gasket,cracked head)so you don't have the same problem over.Also timing belt components, and water pump are good to replace if your taking head off. Use factory stuff for all your parts and cross all tee's and dote all eye's................ good luck

Make sure you get the full gasket set and replace every gasket that it comes with. Also, get a check and deck and possible a valve job on the head. Your gasket kit comes with new valve seals so its a good idea to replace those while you are in there. Do everything else the other guys told you to do. Do it right the first time so you don't have to go back in there.
