Started purchasing upgrades on my 3 week old 96 GST . :) The oil was just changed (500mi ago) with some cheapo jiffy lube oil. I figured it would probably be a good idea to freshen the system up with some nice synthetic. Do you guys have any oil preferences?

What other fluids would you recommend changing? With which brands? (new timing belt, it just rolled 61k)

mmmmm..... fmic, intake, exhaust, injecotrs, boost, wires, etc.... list in the profile once everything is ordered this week.

Mobil 1 Super Synthetic..15 50....w/ a 4 cyl engine restorer thats what ive used since forever..when u put in the engine restorer run it for about 15 mins at highway speeds...it quites ticking really well :thumb:

I have always used Valvoline's VR1 20-50 Racing Oil. Did an awesome job with my Rotary engine so I just kept using it for my DSM. Oh, and if anyone owns a Rotary engine do NOT put synthetic ANYTHING in the engine or gasoline. If you need me to explain why I can though I am not going to now as most of you probably dont own a rotary and if you do I hope you know this already.

I currently use Valvoline SynPower 20-50. I used to use Royal Purple 20-50. My gear oil/tranny fluid is BG Syncroshift. Rule of thumb: Dont start using synthetic oil on engines over 70K. It's been known to loosen and re-new seals to the point where oil is leaking in/out of places it shouldnt. I'm just warning you, because you are getting closer and closer to that 70K mark.....

Castrol Syntec 10W-30 in summer, 5W-30 in winter...the only reason I picked Castrol Syntec is that it seems to keep my motor more quiet than Mobil 1.

I want to go ahead and explain WHY you do not but synthetic in a Rotary engine because i have multiple PMs about it already. So here we go.

The Rotary engine has an oil injection system that injects small amounts of oil into either the intake tract, carb, or rotor housing (depending on year/model). This is needed to lubricate the various internal seals and surfaces.

The injected oil MUST BURN, and must burn clean. The root answer to the question is that not ALL synthetic oils burn, and not ALLof them burn clean.
The ones that do not burn accumulate until they foul the spark plugs.
The ones that do not burn clean can leave residues of various substances (like ash? plastic? non-organic sand?) that accumulate until the spark plugs foul, or a seal sticks -- could be apex seal, side seal, corner seal, or oil control ring. The normal consequence of a stuck seal is an engine tear down.

That about explains it... if you need more info let me know.

Mobil 1 5w30. Seems to work just fine on my 80k old car..... :)

Oil?

Gee, no one's ever thought to ask about oil before.

Whatever's on sale. Or, whatever you like better.

It doesn't matter.

Just as was determined in the last slew of threads it was asked in.
