Ok guys i have a problem. I found a local guy selling a 14b for like $60 bucks and also a guy selling a T28 for $350. I know with the 14b im gonna need the RRE hacker tweaker kit for a good install. And for the T28 i wont need much but new crush washers and a new oil line. I want to know though which one can i go farther with. At the least my goal is a 13 second daily driver.

Both have the capacity go easily meet your goals, but the T-28 will do so more easily and it's a direct fit. That's the route I'd go.

The T-28 outflows the 14B, so go with the T-28 if your going to choose those two turbos. The 14B flows around 405 CFM where the T-28 flows around 480-500 CFM.

T-28 isn't that small internally, still larger then the 14B TDO5, It will be a big difference between the T-25 and the T28 thats for sure. You will gain around 25-30 HP at the same boost level without modifying anything else.

While the T-28 may outflow the 14b on paper, real life results seem to show the opposite.

As stated both turbo's will easily take you deep into the 13's but the T-28 would be the easier install.

ya, for his setup a T28 would be best choice, for simple ease of installation

Hey guys, no to hijack but I had a quick question about the t-28. But this may help out with his decision too.

Is it true that although you see an average of 25-30hp increase with the t-28. You actually have to turn the boost down if your still running the stock fuel system?

On stock intercooler and fuel system I ran the turbo to 28 lbs/min airflow with no knock.

If you look here http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache...map&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1&client=firefox-a
you'll eventually get a link to http://img33.imageshack.us/my.php?image=t2560trim2kw.gif which supposedly is the DSM T25 flow map, showing a max flow of a whopping 22 lbs/min. This is more or less average from the figures other people have had with dyno runs and logs (max of around 220-230 whp). Thus the 6 lbs/min jump would definitely net at least a 25-30 hp increase.

As a note, my figures were from running the turbo at 16 psi and I have the logs to prove it (although there was knock in the upper range, which according to some calculations was my stock fuel pump running out of steam).

Having run both turbos, I'm gonna disagree. A T28 has a 50-60 h.p. advantage over a 14b. Highest datalogs I've seen of a 14b show right around 31 lb/min max. Most tuned T28 runs I've seen including my own were right around 36-37 lb/min. This is just about what you'd see on the respective compressor maps. A T28 is a mid 12 second turbo even in a FULL weight 2G AWD.

Well like I said before the T-28 flows around 480-500 CFM VS the 405 CFM the 14B does. However, if you port the 14B, it can flow around 450 CFM which can yield close to the T-28's results. However, no matter what, the T-28 will always have the edge on the 14B in performance, but the 14B has a different edge over the T-28.....price.

As a reference 22lb/min is low flow for the t25, when I asked around and from personal logs, I saw 25 lb/min at 16 psi.

You said 13 second car. Well your car can be a 13 second car but you can be a 14 second driver. Maybe you should aim for a certain trap speed which translates to how much horsepower your making. For example, if your trapping around 104-106mph your making 260-280WHP roughly with a full weight car. To get that kind of power, it will be easier with a T-28 compared to a 14B. I am not saying its really hard to trap that high with a 14B, its just easier with a T-28 because its flows more at the same PSI of boost.

Noted, and thank you for the extra input since I wasn't sure how accurate that flow map was (since it's drawn and all). However, a 3 lbs/min increase still corresponds to about a 30 hp increase. Bench racing at its finest :p
