FAIV differnt from 90-94 turbo models?

Looking to replace the FIAV on my 93 talon AWDTSI. I just want to get the "wanted" post correct. Are the FIAV valves compatible on all 1g's? Or are the 93 and up different?

They are the same from 91-94 but it's easier and simpler to just block it off or get a different throttle body.

I'm in cold weather here. I've got a block off plate, but I didn't like manually holding the throttle open until the car warmed up. My TB is modified (bored) and newly rebuilt so I don't want to swap TB's.

the 90 throttle body has the isc/fiav built into it. 91-up it is a separate piece that can be removed. to remove it i recommend a vise and a PROPER size philips head and a lot of force pushing down onto the screw. they will probably still strip. i just drilled mine with like a 1/4 bit until the head snapped off the rest of the bolt. once they are all drilled then the assembly can be slid off and the sticking out screw studs will come out easy with pliers from there. i used a bunch of auto trans valve body bolts to reattach mine!

You really should use an impact-type screw extractor, with a good hardened #2 or #3 philips bit to avoid stripping them out. Works for me.

impact tools are amazing, even electric drills with impact settings can do wonders.

I like to use some valve grinding compound on the tip of a new apex bit in a speed handle. Work it back and fourth with alot of pressure. Works almost every time.


I just repaired my existing unit. Works great now. (scroll to last post)
