any one have a factory painted yellow dsm's? i was looking to buy an actual yellow one not painted yellow one unless engine bay is done as well.

yeah its san marino yellow for the 91 laser. i knew bud had one. i was kinda hoping someone had one some were. i didnt want to paint mine. but im gonna have to the chances to find a 91 in that color slim-none.

There is a factory yellow 2gb Talon NT that I see around here fairly often. It's kind of sad to see this girl drive it having no idea what it is, I've been thinking about making her an offer.

I havn't gone through the 2g colors..I didn't know that was an option..But the 2g colors are just codes..I wish they had the color with them..

And since I've come up a few times..I do beleive mine looks like the san marinow yellow I can find for aftermarket paint..So that's what I think it is..

Bud, are you saying your car is factory painted yellow? or is it just painted the factory color code? There is a color and code but i'm thinking none were released . I don't recall any yellow cars in the early days. I just contacted a guy I know from the factory that was a paint shop inspector. he said at the time they tried a yellow car but it was a two stage process that was white first then yellow. It was destroyed.

Mine is not factory..Because it's a 92 eclipse and not 91 laser...But when I loooked at paint recently..I was looking at the San Marinow yellow, that was said to be the 91 laser factory yellow..And it's looked pretty spot on to the color of my car..

I'm not 100% positive, but like I said it looked right when I looked up paint..

I have never seen a 91 laser in yellow..But if there is one floating around..I would love to see the pictures of it..

Couldn't tell you if it was factory or not. Probably not.

I would think the factory dsm color was more like nate crismans car (the second yellow shade) or buds car.

It looks like an Eagle in that picture from post #17, but that's definitely aftermarket paint. The factory didn't paint the door trim like that.

A while back I scowered the net looking for a factory yellow DSM but despite that San Marino Yellow, I've never seen a car painted that color. I don't think Chrysler or Mitsubishi put out any yellow cars from the factory in the early nineties. Maybe they had that color on hand, but they never used it on DSMs.
And the only case of Plymouth using a yellow clear coat is the color Prowler Yellow which they painted their Prowler roadsters.

I'd be curious where Morphius (the guy who posted those paint color codes) got his info.

It oviously made it to the color chart and had a code but it was never a released color from the factory.

Yeah, but where does that color chart come from? And like I said, they may have had it on hand, but never used it. Maybe they did some market research and decided no one liked yellow cars LOL

Hey Super Sport, I have a question. If you worked in the factory, how were the Lasers, Eclipses and Talons separated? Were there three separate sections of the factory where each type was built, or were all the common parts put together and the separate marquee badges and pieces added at the very end?

I have worked at the factory since 89. I can't remember any yellow cars in those years. I may have forgot more then I can remember. After a while they are all the same color. LOL

I need to meet you sometime!!!

I never have seen any factory yellow ones either.

The color chart could have come from different sources. Most likely PPG. The paint supplier. It was set up well in advance of production run.
I think at the time it cost too much to produce a yellow car. It was a two stage system. First body sprayed white then yellow.
Very recently MMNA had a yellow color. I'm sure it cost more too. I think it was a two stage process aswell.

The Laser, Eclipse and Talons weren't seperated. They ran on the same line. Mixed in no ryme or reason as far as we were concerned. In my area, each car had a track sheet taped to the body. As the car came into each individual station, via, the body being on stands fastened to a conveyor, the parts where installed according to the track sheet. Basically each station had parts for all models and trim levels and installed as per track sheet.

Thread resolved thanks to Super Sport. We can conclude there was no such thing as a factory yellow DSM.
