Yes, because a straight pipe with a few holes in it at the end of your exhaust causes sooooo much back pressure.

It was interesting on a episode of GEARZ they took a new vette and installed twin turbos were the mufflers were and it wasn't any louder that aftermarket mufflers. Even the host stated that the turbos dampened the noise.

Heres some pics of parts some guy got over on a contour forum. Hes making his own muffler also but he has more money into it. Not sure where he got the stuff but looks like some quality stuff.

hell yeah it is. i found this out when i was young and i put a battery on a clump of it. it got really hot so i had to drop it on the floor and it melted the nylon piles of the carpet.

I think your looks good too.. I would like to make a small one if I decide to dump my exhaust out the front bumper one day. Or if I get a GS-T I plan on making it loud!

It might look like quality stuff, and may even be quality stuff, but that louvered core is going to be unnecessarily restrictive vs a perforated core.

On your turbo car, where any exhaust restriction is undesirable, you want to avoid that type for maximum flow / minimum restriction.


The type you should look for is perforated core. Here's an example.
