extrude honed...

for 375 bux i would think it would be better to just spend 500-600 and buy a sheet metal intake or the venom

Its expensive at all the other places I've seen too. I know Buschur also does it or has it sent out somewhere. I think they charge about $450. Like you said, that's why everyone is just buying sheetmetal ones.

Thoughts on geting the intake manifold extruded honed, im thinking about it if i have money left over after the basic mods..... im a big fan of modifying factory parts for a gain. But being a bmw guy i guess saveing money on buying parts is my my blood!

What mods do you have? Yes it will make a difference but its something thats usually done far down the mod chain. The extrude honing is also not as popular as before because of the different aftermarket intake manifolds coming out for our cars. Check out Magnus, Forrester, Buschur, Venom.

Its a joke. Real power gains on a turbo car from shorter runners and a larger plenum. Smoothing out the IM helps but it doesn't change the dynamics of the system, which is what you really want.

extreme motorsports has an extrude honed intake mani sitting in their store, its has a +10 hp sticker on it, seems like thats comming up a little short when magnus claims its intake mani gives a 40 to 54 whp gain and proved it on the dyno
unless ur competing in one of those stock appearing classes or u really want ur car to look stock under the hood u might as well get the magnus(or the forester or bushar, but IMO the magnus is the best, and its on sale), it costs about $400 to get ur intake mani extrude honed(+ $150 core charge if u want to keep ur stock mani and buy one thats already honed) and u can get a new magnus sheet metal for $550, and probally sell ur stock one for a little of that cash back

yeah ive never seen a maguns in person, but bang for your buck they seem to kick ass

i was asking because of the bmw shop i use to work at can get things done by extrude so cheap

If you can get deals, screw the intake manifold. Go buy a nice turbo and send that to them. Increased efficiency, decreased lag, better top end, quite a deal if you can get it cheap.

We have an Extrude hone machine in our shop where I am employed :D I used it to extrude hone a head. VERY NICE. Almost got fired :shhh: but it was very worth it...

I've only heard of them extrude honing aluminum intake manifolds and Al heads....
I don't think cast iron exhaust manifold can be extrude honed.... I believe it's only an aluminum process....

no it can be done on steel pieces, it just takes a little longer. I'll be honest with you, I can't see spending the money on something like that unless you are going seriously big with your goals and if you get to that point, buy yourself a sheetmetal intake and an actual tubular manifold. I have access to an extrude hone machine and I still decided to go manual with my porting job because it wasn't worth the time and you can do just as nice a job of porting if you know what you are doing.

does or has anyone done a magnus dyno vs stock intake mani ported and polised like the one that road race sells?? just the stock mani is sleeper style if it will give about the same power an is not as much of a PITA to install

A sheet metal intake manifold will make more peak power due to its large plenum and short runner design thats why they don't show up making power until 5000-5500rpm. You also need cams really to take advantage of the higher rpm bands power. I do not however have any material data to show you as you asked. I doubt anybody has done a back to back test on something like that.

The 1g manifold will make more mid range power. The magnus will kill it from about 6500rpms+ from the data ive seen.

Nice, should work out well. Now just think if you had your head done the same way. :dsm:

Maybe the exhaust side of the head but not the intake side.
It would be very good for the intake side as well, just like the intake manifold, the intake portion of the head is just an extension of the intake manifold. The head should be roughed up afterwards though. :dsm:
