Got a 99 Gst with a 98 talon motor in it (irrelevant but worth mentioning) and looking at the motor the oil pump stud extends out of the timing cover

I’m not new to these motors, but I’m also at a loss as to why this is like that. The previous owner never did any wrenching and it was all done by a shop. I need to do valve stem seals on this engine so I’ll be pulling the timing covers in a few weeks, but can you guys tell me why this oil pump stud sticks out past the timing cover? Like I couldn’t run an ac belt like this. I believe the car has a balance shaft but I can’t verify that right now either

The motor runs and drives but has an electrical issue cutting out randomly. Could be crank sensor related or ecu related

Looks like something sheared off the plastic "bubble" that covers the sprocket nut. The bolt looks pretty standard.

Looks normal besides the "Nut Bubble" someone cut off.....man....that sounds HORRIBLE saying those words.
I am a man.
Anywho, thats the deal.

That is normal but, your cover is broken. There is a little bubble that extends out of the cover to protect that nut.

That’s exactly what I needed to see. I have a spare timing cover it was just extremely concerning to see the nut spinning exposed while the motor was running

Thank you everyone for the answers
