hey guys i have a 90 laser. it is all stock exept for mbc and evo 3 manifold and ebay 20g exhaust side and 3" exhuast....i recently bought the car back from a small dealer here near pittsburgh...the guy said he thinks the "tubo pipe" was bad LOL...(plugs were bad) which lead me to checking the timing..i redone the timing before i sold this car..well i found out that the crack pulley bolt...(big one everybody sticks a 1/2 drive rachet into came loose and let it jump time....IT NEVER WENT BANG LOL :thumb: but the manifold and hot side of turbo was glowing cherry red..so they cracked..thats why it now has evo manifold and ebay 20g exhaust side...but i noticed the exhaust wheel looked really stressed like a white powder on it and i touched a couple of the ends of the fins and to my astonishment the kinna chipped off....ive had this car for all in all like two years and ive never seemed to be able to get this car to boost right... it never acts like all the other dsm's ive rode in...once they're on 5lbs it shoots up to 15 or whatever they're running...even with the 3 inch exhaust it seem to just build steady...and always around 3500 is when i reach 15lbs...ive done boost leak test and the last one i did was the other day and i found that my gasket under the big retaining clip on intake side of turbo was leaking...siliconed that bi*** cz i was at a buddys and have yet to do another one....but i guess my main question is...could that exhaust wheel have anything to do with it...keep in mind stock intercooler piping and everything. im new to the hole forum thing i usually just ask friends who have these cars but they just piss me off sometimes...my car is fwd...thanks guys

if you have no boost leaks at all you may jus have too big of turbo, the bigger the turbo longer it takes to boost... (oh plus you bought it off ebay) try a proformance shop or a honda mechanic ###### has good assets for dsm parts jus my 2 cents good luck bro

What the hell is this, good assets for DSM parts? This isn't .02 of anything, IMO... Why the hell would he take it to a Honda mechanic? Instead of posting useless BS, keep your mouth shut.

OP, I personally don't have any experience with eBay turbos, but I know their rep. My .02 is that they sell them so cheap, because they're made with cheap materials that can't hold up to heat/pressure/etc. With the ends of the wheel actually chipping off, I'd be inclined to think they actually made contact with the turbine housing.

If the turbine wheel is chipped, what life is in that turbo is short.

Very good chance that you need to pull it and swap another in.

Get ahold of JusMX, and see if he has one to fit your needs or check the classifieds.

Personally, ebay turbos are used to see if that size turbo is what fits your needs, and if it lasts a year, you got your moneys worth out of it, then you get a "name brand" turbo to replace it with.

What do you mean you have a 20g hot side? Can you put a 20g hotside on a 14b and have it work like normal? I have no idea.

And have you checked out your knock sensor? Does it have some tar like shit coming out of it? I would check it.

I would have gone thru the 14b route, or 16g used of course for now. Ebay turbos are not built well. If you can maybe get a cheap turbo off your friends since they have dsms?

when my first turbo blew I bought a cheap one off ebay, and 3 months later the shaft snapped in half. Ever since I buy mhi or good brands. Well worth it in the long run man.

sorry for not being clear guys it is an MHI 14b...the original...the hot side...my terms sorry "turbine" side is off of an ebay 20g...its so hard to diagnose problems with stock intercooler piping...ive never actually got this car to run how it should in my terms...yeah if you poke it open in second it paws the ground a little...that seems about right for a stock 1g on 15lbs with evo manifold and 3 inch exhaust...but idk it feels like shit to me. it doesnt have any bottom end at all. yeah i know 1gs have low compression but even with the 3 inch exhaust i dont get that boost that is nothing the WHAM like all the other 1gs ive drove/rode in...my buddy got a 1g with an hx40 and ours spool about the same...like i should be spooled before his thinks about whistling a lil LOL

and btw i just bought a MHI evo 3 16g to rebuild to put on it...waiting till i get money for the rebuild kit. but i hear it will outflow the 1g maf....

i wonder if the chipped ends of the turbine wheel could be most of my problem? im not talkin BIG chips...im talkin like baby chips...just enough to see that it isnt a smooth corner on the wheel anymore..but a little jagged..idk its hard to explain and explain a little more about the knock sensor please bud thanks
