My 92 Eclipse GSX (stock) runs too hot and I want ideas why. The stock temperature gauge is always jumping around between the halfway mark and the full hot mark. As I accelerate the needle tends to slowly move hotter, then as I come to a stop it will move back to halfway. How can I fix this? Thanks.

& Dad MOST cars do NOT have a Heater Control Valve these days - whether it makes sense to you or not.

Most do, some don't, and it appears ours does not either, so I stand corrected!!

No, don't make sense base on my experience..... but frankly, not going to spend anymore time on subject.

Good grief, bypass the damn thing and see what happens!!!!

I guess your right, who needs a heater in San Diego. When the front window fogs, I'll just use a towel instead of the defroster. Maybe I can buy the towel at the dealership and it will say Mitsubishi on it.

Well actually MOST cars send AC to the Windows in Defrost Mode to equalize temps OMG

Mine don't! LOL. I always have to turn AC on if fogging gets real bad. I just figured it was made that way, so you can choose when you want it on, and when you don't, so you are not wasting "power". Is this normal, or do I have something wrong?

Recommendations for replacement thermostats (after I eliminate the core as a possible cause)? Degrees? 195...180? Does it really matter?

Well theoretically IF it actually ran at 180 the Coolant Temp Sensor in your Radiator wouldn't turn your Rad Fan on & the Temp Sensor at the Thermostat Housing MIGHT tell your ECU to keep your FIAV at the Throttle Body open so you could idle weird when Hot & run Rich - I'd go with a 190 & personally I cut the little Brass Poppet off of the "weep Hole" & let it flow a little all the time.

I already have an autozone type of thermostat on there, rather than the Mitsubishi stock replacement. I don't remember if the replacement had a weep hole. I've seen other thermostats, not from the dealer, that didn't have weep holes and people would drill the weep hole into them. If mine did not have the weep hole, do you think it could possibly be contributing to the problem, or is it too insignificant?

I see that weep hole as significant somehow - I don't think that the lack of one would necessarily make you run hot - But the Water Pump & Post Cut-off Engine Cool-down may benefit somehow during times when the Thermostat is Shut.

There are Threads on guys using Mazda Rotary Thermostats - & there are threads where guys have had trouble with the El Cheapo Thermostats.
