I am looking to replace the stock exhaust on my 95 Tsi. Can I get a 3" turbo back setup on my stock turbo? If so what options are out there? Who makes a decent system for a good price? Thanks.

Yes just get a 3 inch turbo back exhaust. It's just metal piping so search whatever is the cheapest imo.Look on the main page at vender's or maybe classifieds for a cheap exhaust.

Will a 3" downpipe fit right on a stock turbo, or do I need a 2.5" to 3" downpipe?

I believe there is only 1 or 2 vendors that sell or produce a true 3" o2 housing, otherwise it's a custom item. Most o2 housings from stock cast housings to after market tubular housings will utilize the same mitsu hotside flange and a 2.5" (IIRC) down pipe flange.

On that note, most downpipes are generally 3" except where it bolts to the o2 housing which is smaller to allow it to bolt up properly to the o2 housing.

I would consider just getting a Megan Racing downpipe and if you need to utilize a catalytic converter, go to an exhaust shop and have them weld in or flange in a high flow 3" converter and (if applicable) flange the cut pipe to form a test pipe.

They can make test pipes, they just cannot allow you to leave with them on or remove a working catalytic converter.

i just bought a 98 eclipse from a friend, he has a greddy 3'' exhaust on it, and bought a cheap ebay header and ebay downpipe, take a guess as to what the first two things to junk out on this car was after i bought it? Yep, the down pipe literally came off in two pieces, and the header has 4 seperate cracks in it that i can see. I bought a Meagan Racing downpipe (2.5-3) and a forced performance manifold and i expect it to last me quite some time. The exhaust sounds amazing if you were wondering. What im trying to say here is, there's corners to be cut, but exhaust, oil, fuel, etc...isnt a corner to go cheap on, id rather see cheap tires then a cheap exhaust. My .02.

WTF

Piping is piping. Being in arizona, I went to some hole in the wall exhaust shop, paid the guy in burritos ($120 worth), and had a 3 inch cat back exhaust welded up. I bought the down pipe local, 2.5-3in, for $100. (Pacesetter downpipe but they don't sell them anymore so I would go with a Megan one).

Yes piping is piping but its not all the same. That cheap ebay china crap can't hold up to the pressure/heat and cracks like in a few days. It's probably paper thin in some areas and who knows what all materials they use in that "steel".

Yeah, but a cracked exhaust just is loud..... bad tires can cause crashes. Personally I'd rather have a a leaky exhaust than wreck a car.

But back on topic.... I have a Thermal RD cat-back on my car. THE ONLY gripe I have with it is that the pipe that bolts to the converter has a stock size flange. If you're running a 3" downpipe or a 3" converter, then you have to cut this flange off and weld on a new one. I didn't any other option when it came to the Thermal brand for a 3" flange on that one side. (since they were all labeled cat-backs) But other than that, it's a great exhaust and sounds amazing.

There are actually a lot of people that use eBay no name exhausts on here without issue. I wouldn't recommend a manifold, nor does any one else, but a downpipe-back is fine. Generally there is just fitment issues; hangar locations.

I agree, never cheap out on tires, they are what keep your ass on the ground in the spot you tell them too.

Wow! Tires are the only thing that touches the road. Tires are everything in my opinion. I bought 4 brand new tires at Poopboys for $100 once. That was the worst decision I ever made in my life.

I don't even think they were round.

Ebay stuff is crap! Even some of the sellers on there sell "name brand" stuff that aren't even real so you gotta be carefull on what you buy on there. I would just start asking some people who the best exhaust shop is and go there for a price on a full 3" exhaust. And I agree that tires are very very important. I would rather have an exhaust failure than one of my tires blow out!

Is the A'pexi N1 system (down pipe & cat-back exhaust) designed to be catless? I was on DSMparts.com and didn't see any cats for any of the systems. Thanks.

Let me reinsert myself here, what I was getting at with cheap tires, was that you'll be replacing them soon, because likely your reasoning to buy cheap tires was because of a budget issue. Where cheap tires with good tread, are going to be better than your bald kdw's, and will get u by for a few months while u save for the good ones, plus they are going to be a lot easier to replace, and less likely to cause mechanical failure then a holey, cheap exhaust. Not to mention cheap tires aren't gonna get u a ticket like that loud holey exhaust. I wouldn't buy cheap tires nor to I recommend it, I should have been more concise with that previous statement.

My only issue about Ebay exhaust pipes is that they usually aren't SS so they will eventually rust out. Other than that, my 3" Ebay straight pipe has held up great. I covered it in high heat paint from the flex section back to keep the rust at bay. I agree that ebay exhaust manifolds are crap, but when it comes to a 3" pipe that will never see nearly as much heat and pressure as the exhaust manifold it truly doesn't matter where you get it. And for about $100 for O2 housing, pipe, and muffler I can afford to replace it every now and then. For the price of an N1 turbo-back I could stand to replace/repair mine 10 times.

The apexi downpipe eliminates the catalytic converter and bolts up directly to the apexi n1 cat-back system. I'm selling my brand new apexi downpipe for a 95-99 gsx, if your interested shoot me a message. :thumb:

I'm new to this stuff sorry, but if I go with the A'pexi N1 system do I need to buy a seperate o2 housing aswell?

You don't have to buy a separate o2 housing. The apexi downpipe will bolt right up to the stock o2 housing. But you can upgrade the o2 housing if you want to, but it's not necessary.

Pipe is not pipe.
There are various grades of stainless steel and not all of them will resist corrosion as good as the next.
