exhaust sound help

I need help. I'm trying to get my gst to sound like an srt4. This is my top priority right now. All I mean is that sweet pop noise that happens all the time in an srt4. Its my favorite exhaust ssound and I need help figuring it out on my car. Thank you!
Right now I have a header, stock downpipe, resonator delete, and muffler delete. I'm close to the sounds but the pops aren't as agressive and they barely happen.

Your exhaust has very little to do with the backfires on decel, from my understanding, the SRT-4 is tuned from the factory to pop and crack like this. Its from the injectors firing on deceleration.

That "popping" is from the car running rich (or using some kind of fuel enrichment like mentioned) and unburnt fuel is combusting in the pipes. They don't have a muffler from the factory either, just resonators, which makes them sound much more aggressive. The bigger 2.4L engine also doesn't hurt the sound. But the stock tune on most turbocharged engine's is very rich. With a good tune they wouldn't make that popping sound anymore and would make more power.

So bottom line: It isn't going to happen. The only popping you'll get is from Launch Control or Anti-lag. If you really want the sound of an SRT4, you'll have to go buy one. Either that or richen your tune beyond a reasonable level and hope you make enough power to actually move the car.

I typically hear that from a larger turbo with a more open turbine housing and straight pipe exhaust. A 16g might do it, but not very loud and not for long. At least mine doesn't. That's actually the exact sound I hope for when I install my Holset. I loved the sound of the turbo winding down on my F350, to have it come from a 4-banger would be straight evil.

The more straight through exhaust you have the more likely you will be to hear it. Maybe not on a stock T-25 or 14b, but I supposed it is possible.

I basically have a straight pipe exhaust. Only thing i still have on is my cat. My co workers tell me that i cant take my cat off due to back pressure and ill burn up my turbo. But i read on here that some of you guys do open headers? I just wanna figure things out because im sure you guys have the right answers.

You can run no cat without worries. Dont feed into that back pressure BS.. If you remove or gut the cat your exhaust will be louder. You wont get the crackle sound but you will hear the turbo spool and despool. I run a full straight pipe and its loud. It wasnt too bad untill i upgraded my turbo and cams and exhaust manni. Sounds cool and all but for a DD its too much. Contiplating on an exhaust cutout real soon.

The things you hear people say. No, removing your cat will not harm the engine or turbo. It just kills performance and sound while hurting the planet a little bit less. You may throw a check engine light, but that can be fixed with some clever tricks such as a rear O2 spacer. But the vast majority of us (including myself) are using "test pipes" or simply no cat at all. For off road use only of course.

Just put a cutout on mine and LOVE it. I can drive quiet in the city, and flip a switch and go all out when I hit the back roads.

Lol thanks for the advice guys. In that case, i think im just gonna leave my cat on. Because it is nice and loud, but not way too loud. After i put the header on, when i accelerate, it sounds like a subaru for some reason, but im not complaining.

Your car does not sound like a suburu either..A suburu's engine is a boxer engine, you have a in line 4 cyl..So no, your car will not sound like a suburu either..

That's not what makes the sound though. That rumble comes from unequal length headers. They sound like Civic's with equal length pipes.

My buddy had a 90's 1.8 awd ooberoo..It sounded nice after we pigied the cats, did a custom cold air, and straight pipe..

Sounded nothing like the 4G tho.
