I need help! My Talon is burning a quart of oil every 2 weeks. On top of that its smoking when at idle. The smoke is blue and smells terrible. My question is if this is related to another problem i'm having. I had tried to install an aftermarket Air/fuel gauge and when i tapped the o2 sensor wire (the grey one of the 4 on the 02 sensor) I was getting a 14 volt signal on my multimeter. I should be getting a millivolt signal. I changed the o2 and i'm still getting the same signal on the wire. So as far as I can see, its a short going back after the o2 wire to the pcm somewhere. I wanted to know if because the computer isnt getting an o2 signal if it doesnt know exactly how much fuel to put in at a specific time? Does the computer go to a preset fuel ratio that would make my car run rich and smoke. I am new to DSM's and I have been reading forums for months now and can't find my answers anywhere. I'm very afraid to do more mods until i know whats up. The car is showing no drivability problems at all. :toobad:

if it was running rich the color of the smoke would be a charcoal color. and it would have very bad fuel smell and drivability problems... blue smoke is burnt oil, for which you must check piston rings, headgasket, valve seals, stuff like that, that pertain to oil leakin or getting into the combustion chamber.

:dsm:

also the turbo seals, didn't catch ya were turbo'ed

I've got a 92 tsi pretty much stock. The only mods I have are a 3'' downpipe that eliminates the cat that i fabricated to fit on the small stock catback and the free mods. As far as the smoke goes it is definatly a dark blue and it smells terrible. I like doing work on my cars myself but I need a diagnosis. I'm probably just gonna take the car to a shop and see whats up before doing anything else. thanks for your response though.

If messing with o2 sensor, your car will be smoking out blue. I disconnected my SAFC 2 once and forgot to rehook the wires back in. My car would smoke blue at idle also smoke blue when my o2 went dead, so not just oil burnning will give you a blue smoke, bad o2 will do also.

It's generally said that oil produces blue smoke, richness causes black smoke, and coolant and condensation causes white smoke.

A blown 02 sensor isn't going to cause your car to burn any more oil then it was before, but it will make your car run crappy.

I think my advice come from experience bro and yes what you said is correct too about oil burning. Like I said, when my o2 went dead, my car would smoke blue at idle and acceleration and yes car did run like crap. The smoke did go away after I've got the o2 replaced, I still have the document from the dealership when I took it in for a blue smoke check up and came out to be a bad o2. I only had my car for less then 25k miles and I had them replace my o2 sensor under warrenty. Even when you play with RC nitro with no oil and only gas power, gas lubercation, the RC will also blows out blue smoke.

ok well speaking of smoking. When i start my car up whether its warm or cold i get a huge cloud of smoke for about 5 secs but then it goes away and never smokes again till i have to start the car again? Any ideas?

Burgh, it sounds like you have worn/leaky valve seals. The reason why it does it right after start up then goes away is because while the car is sitting not running oil leaks down into the combustion chambers SLOWLY. You dont notice it after its run for a bit because the leak is so slow. The longer she sits the bigger the Cloud. In my opinion valve seals are to much trouble to change just to stop a little leak. I see it as extra lube on my upper combustion chamber :thumb: LOL.

in other words dont worry about it its not gonna hurt anything?? I am only asking because i dont want this to cause other probs down the road. i just bought this car for $700 and its got 88000 miles on it. i want to keep this car running as long as possible. I do want to do some minor mods since its a non turbo 1.8 but im not gonna go too crazy.
