I have 97 gst 111,000 mi. mods 3" tbe uicp 1g bov mbc K&N. the car smokes at an idle but is fine when driving around. it burns about a qt. between oil changes. I suspect erther valves, turbo, or rings? anyone with experience please chyme in. Thanks

The dry test is when you turn the engine over while its warmed up to operating tempurature to get a reading. A wet test is when you add a couple of tablespoons of oil to each cylinder and retest.

If your numbers are alot higher from the wet test then it is your rings.

The car runs really strong, dont know if that makes a difference. If the rings were out would it run strong? Any other causes? Remember this only happens when the car sits at an idle for 5 or so min. Dont notice very much smoke when im just trolling around. Thanks...

Well even if its not your rings, the compression test will tell you about the overall strength of your engine. If the results end up being inconclusive then you could get a shop to perform a leakdown test. That will tell you if its you valve stem seals, rings, or headgasket that is leaking oil.

I don't know why I didn't mention this earlier, but have you checked your turbo for side-to-side and in-and-out freeplay lately?
