ok i have had this problem for a while now with my 92 awd tsi, when you let off the gas, or you are just ideling the exhaust pops likes crazy, and when you accelerate in any gear the car seems to hesitate every couple seconds, we did a boost leak test , it held 30 psi no problem, the head is newly rebuilt and makes 171,172,170,171 . The car is completly stock except a 2.5 inch exhaust, and bpr7es plugs.

Could it be the timing? The guy i bought it from told me the timing was very agressive for stock, but i shrugged it off when i saw the CAS was dead center, what do you think, thanks.

What mods are done to car? Typically I would say boost leak but that has been done. Sounds like it may be running rich and that could cause it to backfire on decel. More info mods etc would help.

I would verify the mechanical timing is correct and are you venting the blow off valve to atmosphere?

Thnks for the quick response. The motor is stock with 14b turbo routed into the intake not vented to atmosphere, only thing done is bpr7es copper plugs, and a 2.5 inch exhuast, but thr car still did all this with the stock exhuast, and i tried bpr6es plugs no help, and they have all been gapped correctly.
