exhaust leak w/ white smoke

i am about to pick up a 91 eclipse gst, it has 128k on it.
the flex pipe is all torn apart and there is barely any exhaust coming out the muffler. when the car sits and idles there is a lot of white smoke coming from under the car. is a lot of smoke normal if it leaks out before the cat and muffler?
it was kinda dark while test driving but i didn't see any smoke while driving or under acceleration. the turbo still boosts great and it pulls hard.
could it be a head gasket if it still runs good?

Flex pipe? you mean, Flex that's welded onto the DP?http://www.roadraceengineering.com/exhaustparts.htm
Check if there's any coolant leaking on/into the DP.

Check turbo for shaft play. Remove the intake and check the compressor wheel for In and Out (Bad) or Side to Side play (minor hairline side to side play is fine)

White smoke = Worn turbo seals or time to replace your headgasket.

You might want to do a compression check on the engine as well. Engine's HeadGasket might be blown.
