well any downpipe is good mines 3 inch dp and 2.5 out the exhaust, for my set up no test pipe just a pipe. for the evo someone else chime in, mines works fine.

I ran 3" all the way from the O2 housing to the muffler, then two 2.25" outlets from the muffler. Works for me.

A larger, free-flowing exhaust will allow you more potential power production, but it is more prone to boost creep on the e316g. I have a 3" turbo-back system with high-flow cat and I can't keep the boost below about 22 PSI at the top of 3rd on a full pull. In the lower RPM range below about 5k, I can can hold it to 15 PSI, but from 5k to 7.5k it begins to creep. Rather than spending money on an external wastegate setup to limit my boost, I installed a methanol injection kit to work with the boost creep. I can easily boost to 25 PSI @ 18 degrees timing without knocking on 91 octane.

As I understand, narrower exhaust systems will limit boost creep and ultimate power production, but I've never used a 2.5" system so I can't comment on how well it will keep creep down. As stated, if you're not after every last HP possible out of this turbo, go with a 2.5" system. Good luck.

Using a full 2.5 inch exhaust will absolutely help with boost creep, which is what the E316G is known for with those people using full 3 inch systems. Look at some past posts of Justin's (jusmx141). It will also help with noise suppression, if you're looking for a slightly quieter exhaust tone.
