I seriously want to purchase a EvoIII 16G because i think it would be perfect for my needs. However, my group of car friends own an Evo, SRT-4, and a WRX. Now the Evo and SRT-4 already have variants of a 16G turbo stock in their cars. I'm worried that if i put this turbo in my car it wont be enough to win against them in a race, and i dont want to hear them talk smack about how i spent all this money and i still lost and blah blah. So i guess my question is how well can the e316g compete against cars such as the evo and srt4 which are on the stock turbo?

You can easily beat a SRT-4 on an evo III 16G. They are slow. You can beat one on a 14B pretty easily. However you are most likely gonna need some supporting mods, like an at least 190 fuel pump, and bigger injectors. If you get a 255 fuel pump you will need an AFPR as it will easily overrun the stock regulator. These mods will allow you to raise the boost safely.

A properly tuned EVO III running big boost will run mid to low 12's all day without batting an eyelash. You'll need the proper supporting mods to do this, but tuners have gone high 11's pushing 25-26psi on cams and race gas.

I'm not picking on you here so please don't take this the wrong way, but if your goals are determined by wanting to beat your friends' cars, this isn't the right way to go. Building up a motor performance-wise, is all about your particular ambitions for the car. Please don't let outside pressure dicatate the path you'll want to choose. I understand the spirit of competition and wanting to best your opponent, however it should be immaterial to you whether they give you a hard time if you're not faster.

Keep something in mind as well. You can slap any turbo you want on there and still be dog slow from running rich A/f ratios and low timing. Your tune will have the greatest effect on how much you're able to exploit any turbo to it's fullest. Modifying isn't about having more parts or better parts than the next guy. It's about making your parts and combination work better than his.

Tweak it, run 25psi on a strong tune and you'll have a competitive, reliable daily driver. Do it half-assed and you'll not only be slower, but will break stuff in the process.

Make sense?

The EvoIII 16g is very reliable and quick spooling. I have had mine for almost a year and its great for a daily driver and amazing at the track. I'm up in NH and we have several guys that race weekly in the summer running the EvoIII. The times range from 11.5 to 13.5 but it all depends on the car, the driver, and the gas. There is one guy that has a pretty much stock weight tsi running 11.512 at 121.61. That was on race gas with an external wastegate, cams and the regular supporting mods. The very first time I raced mine in full street trim, on pump gas I ran a 13.3 and that was breaking up at the top of 3rd and 4th. Its only gotten faster.

So, long story short, the EvoIII 16g is a great choice and will surprise you.

FYI, I raced a WRX STi with my current mods but with my old Big T-28 turbo and beat him by a car length. I was only set to 16lbs of boost at the time. Those cars are not as fast as the owners claim they are stock.
