Whats up guys. im getting ready to swap my t25 for a brand new evo3 16g from extremepsi. i just have a couple of questions regarding tuning and the hp output i may be able to achieve off of my setup. I have done a lot of research on this site and others but am getting mixed opinions about what i have to work with. my overall goal im trying to achieve is somewhere between 330-350 hp.

my first question is i have apexi afc and aem wideband ready to be installed. i dont have the extra money for dsmlink right now and i want to make sure i can properly tune my car with afc and wideband.

next question. i have a fp manifold and i just want to make sure everything will fit right up and i dont have to mod anything to run he manifold with my 16g.

i went with the internal wastegate option. didnt have the money to go external right now. im pretty sure the stock 16g actuator is rated at 11 psi. will i be able to make my power goals with this setup or should i look into getting one with a heavier spring?

I have a 99 eclipse gst
swapped with 97 gst engine (rebuilt) about 120k
greddy boost controller
ets fmic and piping with hks bov (recircd)
walbro 255
greddy exhaust no cat with a 3" downpipe

ready to be installed:
evo3 16g
fp manifold
fic 775cc
aem gauges

i know supporting mods and a good tune go a long way. any advice would be greatly appreciated
 
The FP manifold will go right on, no mods required. The internal wastegate on the 16G is fine as well; you will raise boost with the boost controller. You will need an install kit to put that turbo on your 2G, it will consist of coolant and oil lines; the T25 lines wont work. I hope that the fuel pump has been rewired to increase and stabilize voltage at the pump, and that you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to avoid overrunning the stock fuel pressure regulator under idle and cruise conditions (You will run rich). You cannot compensate for 750cc injectors with an SAFC, it cannot compensate for injectors that large. The turbo will get you to your goal, but just hold off on installing it until you get the install kit if you dont have it, and ECMLINK to tune with, or get some EVO 560cc injectors, or some 660cc injectors, but you will not have timing control with the SAFC and its just so much nicer to have a real tuning solution and the ability to fully customize all your maps and thats not even including all the other great features youd have with Link. Bottom line, Id sell the SAFC and put the money toward Link.
 
thanks for the input man very helpful. I have the install kit too i forgot to mention it. pump hasnt been rewired and fuel pressure regulator is next on my list after i get back on the road. would i be fine running 660s instead? and afc could tune those fine? would i be fine running say 15-18 psi before i get ecmlink?
 
You could get 660cc injectors, but thats pushing the limit on the SAFC. I used to do it with 660cc injectors on my 1G, but that was with a 2G maf and the 2G maf on a 1G car eases the amount of compensation required for the injectors, but since DSMs come with a rich fuel map in the areas of wide open throttle (9.3:1), I had to take the SAFC settings down to almost -40 on the high settings to achieve a 11:1 AFR at wide open throttle. The SAFC (Or MAF Translator, they work very similarly)complicates things because when you use it to compensate for larger injectors and put the settings into the negative side, you are basically intercepting and modifying the maf signal to the ECU and telling the ECU that there is "X" less air coming into the motor, which takes some fuel out, thereby allowing you to utilize larger injectors, but the side effect is that the airflow the ECU sees causes it to use a part of the fuel and timing maps that are set up for lower load ranges, and this causes you to end up with more timing advance than you should be getting and this leads to knock. With a 1G car, a trick to get out of this is to either flow a LOT of air in order to put you back to the top load ranges of the maps(Done with cams, head porting or just a lot of boost, which is unrealistic on pump gas with no timing control in the first place), or to retard base timing with the CAS. In the case of a 2G, while you have a much more conservative timing map due to higher compression pistons, you cannot adust timing advance with a 2G in stock form, so either you can get your desired boost level without knock, or you cant- every car is different. Personally, if I were in your shoes, Id get some EVO 560cc injectors because they are cheap at less than 100 dollars sometimes, and tune from there. Just log the car once you get a basic setup on the SAFC and watch for pulled timing and high injector duty cycles and keep the AFR at 11:1 at wide open throttle and you should be able to muster 18psi or so.
 
Sorry to ask but why change the 99 engine to a 97 engine? So ive read many times on here the 99 engines are better,

im probably going to go with the 660's and get a good tune until i get link. im gonna shoot for 18 psi and see what happens. i appreciate your input man im going to do some more research before i do anything

You know you might not even need DSMlink. You could probably just flash your ecu, I'm not sure what the system is called, but def. something to look into. I've heard about flashing the ecu but dont know much about it im def going to look into it

I blew out my bottom end at 176k all stock and took the cheap way out finding one at a junkyard and rebuilding it. engine pulls hard

I have almost that exact set up but with 1200cc injectors and no tuning and I am at 325whp

what setup you running?

Shenanigans!! Either you are puffing diesel smoke and have straight gas for oil or you have a chip
 
I have an old keydiver chip I'd consider giving him (if I can find it and he wanted to try it:p), but it's setup for a 95 GSX and PTE 680cc injectors. Besides a socketed 95 ECU, If he were to use this on his 97 motor would he need to swap plug wires and injector connections, or would there still be an issue:confused:? This is from the old Keydiver website:
- Cam/CAS Inversion:
"This feature is necessary when using the 1995 ECU on a 1997+ car, or if you have done a 6-bolt swap. The 97+ and 1G sensors put out an inverted CAS signal, which changes the injector firing order. This CAS Inversion fixes the injector issue, but you still need to swap plug wires 1&2, and 3&4 if you have a 1997+ car, or have done a 1G 6-bolt swap."

Use ecuflash and reflash your stock ecu. The program is really user friendly, even to a beginner. You can do things as simple as fuel trim corrections all the way to timing maps and sd setups. I use it on all 3 of my 2gs.
 
Haven't had much time to get on a computer lately. I still haven't got the injectors yet but I'm probably going to go with the 660's. I'm gonna set boost at 16 psi and go from there. im gonna run it on the afc for about a month or so until i have the money for link. should have her back on the road next week :thumb:
