Halifax,
Hey guys...sorry if this topic has been discussed before but i have not really gotten a straight answer from other posts, and since i am new im not allowed to post in the turbo forum...

I have a 93 tsi fwd. ive had it for about a month and the turbo just died on it...its at a chrysler dealer right now, and to replace the stock 14b its $1400 canadian....so i figure i might as well get a larger turbo now from a distibutor because i know i will eventually be tuning and modding....im intrested in the evo3 16g....brand new i can get it for $700 canadian....much better price than the inferior 14b from the dealer....now i understand it is a straight bolt on swap....but my car is totally stock and i need to know, do i have to do ANYTHING (meaning buy/modify parts) in order to put the 16g on, and is it safe for my car? and if it is ok to install on my tsi will there be ALOT more boost...i know eventually i'll have to get a manual boost controller, gauges etc.......but the main question is can i do a staright swap and not have to worry about things..believe me, i dont wanna spend any more money on this car..

your help would be greatly appreciated.

The EVO is an excellent turbo for most applications. If you keep the boost below 15 psi, you should be fine running it on a stock car. I ran mine at 9 psi (stock wastegate setting) for awhile and it was much faster than my stock t-25 at 15psi boost.

I'd say keep the boost down and slowly start working up to a good number.

awesome thanks alot...i mean, there is no point in paying double the price for a smaller turbo.
thanks .........keep the replies to the thread coming, you're input is needed!!

are you getting a F*ck job at the dealer i mean, getting the turbo installed by their staff?

i still need to know....is there ANYTHING i have to modify or buy..or is the evo 3 a straight swap with a 14b?

The only thing that comes to mind is the intake.
the Inlet on the turbo is larger than a 14b, so get a good intake pipe, again, i dont know if its so much bigger the stock wont fit, but who likes that stock garbage anyway right?

like stated above, there is 2 turbos using the evoIII name. the true Mitsubishi heavy industries turbo. and the weak clone called the evoIII GT.

It's a TDO5H Housing. Inlet is the same size outside diameter.

I just installed a evo 16g onto my stock 90 plymouth laser, all you have to do is take out hte old 14b and replace it w/ the evo 16g.. of course you will need the new gaskets but thats a given . Other than that it fits just like the 14 b did
