Ok, i have searched this many times over and cannot find EXACTLY what i am looking for.
Now there is a slight chance that i can pick up a 97 gsx w/ 98k for like 2 grand, from a wholesale dealers auction. the reason it is so cheap is because the engine is making some nasty noises. I imagine it is more than likely crankwalk. But if i get the car, i will have enough money to do a complete engine swap. and my apparent choices are the EVO3 jdm engine, and the 1g 6 bolt swap.
Pricewise: which is the best way to go? i am looking to have a streetable car that can run low 13's on pump gas maybe high 12's, but i dont plan on putting any stronger clutch in than a ACT2600(for a long time at least). So what is the benefit of each engine and how much will it all cost(ballpark price). When i do the swap i want to modify it in the process, a solid full stage one setup with a BIG16g or EVO16g turbo. and an FMIC, added on top of the stage1. I am also looking for reliable streetability. What are your opinons, adn what experience do you have with these swaps? thanks alot in advance! i have a shop around here that will probaly do the work, because i am not this advanced yet.

does anyone have anymore help? and mods, if you think this thread would get more replys in a different board/section than by all means please move it there.

the evo3 motor is not a 6 bolt motor. its 7 bolt.
here in nz there arent many cases of crank walk reported with the evo motors but it still does happen
possibly over all itll prob cost you less doing a 1gen swap over buying the evo motor first then doing the swap.

thanks alot, but i knew that the evo3 engine was a 7bolt. i am just trying to figure out which engine is better for the money? thanks
and anyone else that can help please do.

Ok 1st, the motor in that first link that was supplied by Groomz is not a Evo 3 motor it is a jdm Galant Vr4 motor. The Evo 3 motor has a titanium valve cover much like the stock 2g valve cover, it is also a 7 bolt. The Evo 3 motor is a direct swap into a 2g, there might be some minor modifying needed because of the dual runner manifold but other than that its quite simple. Infact there is a write up in the tech guide on how to do it. The 1g 6 bolt motor is not a direct swap, its not the hardest swap ever done but there is alot of modifications that need to be done. In the end the 6 bolt swap will cost more money, some people here seem to think that its next to impossible to find an evo3 motor and if you can your going to pay out the ass for it. This is not true, there is a place here in california were i live that sells evo3 motors for the same price as the eclipse 4g63, wich is $1100 out the door i know becasue i have one sitting in my garage. If you would like you can pm me and ill give you there number, they ship all over the U.S. for a low price.
