ive done alot of searching but cant find an answer, if installing evo 8/9 valve springs are the valve seats from an evo required? also do i need evo retainers?

If you choose to use the EVO beehives, you will need the matching retainers.

IIRC the spring seats will be the same as a DSM.

But why go to the EVO springs?? I have not seen them as much of an upgrade.

Also if they are so good..... Why are the EVO guys pulling them off??

For about the same cash outlay, you can get a new set of BC or Manley single springs that will work just fine with your stock retainers and seats.

I've installed them in my head and used the stock seats, and the evo springs retainers seemed to work fine for me. I have about 20k on them currently.

Why evo springs? They are cheaper, have less miles than most dsm springs, and I believe they are an upgrade.

i run the evo springs and would run those over the manley/ BC springs anyday...and im running 272s..revving to 8250, i also know of a few people running kelfords on these springs...i was kind of surprised...

exact reason right here, im on a budget and id rather run a beehive style spring then the bc1100 , im also only reving to 7500-8k (stock bottom end), FP2 cams

side note, i meant to say do i need evo keepers, i knew i needed the retainers, thats the biggest upgrade since they are so light

nah we installed them straight up on the stock dsm head, all u need is the titanium retainer that comes with the springs, the stock dsm retainer wont fit...plus u shave some weight off since the evo springs are probably one of the lightest valve spring/ retainer combo

BTW The stock EVO retainer is not Ti, but an Aluminum alloy.

I tested a box of 32 used evo spring on an actual valvespring tester. They were all below spec for brand new Dsm springs, at Dsm installed height. The only advantage is they are lighter.

Softer but because they are a beehive style they control the valve better than the stock dsm springs.

Do a search this has been covered a few times.
