Hello, I was just wondering if anyone knows or have used the stock evo beehive valve springs with 280 cams before and how has it worked out, or is the stock evo springs not enough for the cams.

I am looking at getting rid of my HKS 264's for either graveyard motor sports 274's or there 280's. I already have evo beehive springs and retainers.

Thank you.

You are going to find a lot of mixed results for this. People have taken 280s to 8k on stock DSM valve springs, but the consensus is no.

You should really upgrade them if you plan to get 280s.

I wouldn't. With a cam that aggressive the only springs I would use are the Kiggly Beehives.

You would benefit from an upgraded spring with those cams. The evo springs are better than stock DSM stuff, but wont cut it with bigger cams. The only reason the evo springs are considered an "upgrade" is because they're lighter. They don't offer a significant increase in spring pressure to make them appropriate for use with higher duration cams. This will lead to an inability of the spring to maintain proper valvetrain geometry and also valve loft, valve bounce and valve float. All of which will damage your engine and cost you horsepower.

I will continue to put this info out there. I went to the machine shop with 32 evo springs. They were all around 45lbs at 1.550", and less than 150lbs over the nose of a 10mm lift cam, junk. Brand new stock replacement dsm springs were stronger. Used springs always lose pressure.

well I'm still undecided if i want to buy the 274 or 280's from dsmgraveyard. I bought the evo springs cuse I thought they were a big upgrade to our springs. hmm that stinks.

Were those 32 evo springs new?

Hey Dave do you have an extra tranny or know of any one that does?? Sorry for the side track

Although I would get new springs, I do know one reliable build that's running HKS 280's on Evo 8 springs, built head, block, 37r, 497whp last time I checked, and its still going strong. It might not be a surefire grenade, but I wouldn't chance it.

Ok since it is a BIG no with the 280's . Do you think the 274's would be ok with the springs ?

I am also intrested in those 274 cams. If you decide to go with them keep us posted.. What exactly are regrind cam anyways?

I will Absolutely let you know.

Regrinds are stock cams that are just reground LOL, I think they weld metal to the lobes and regrind them. I am not entirely sure on the process of it, I can tell you they are just stock cams to start off with.

Okay thats what i thought they were. Imma have to research some more before i go out and buy a pair.. Because dsmgraveyard doesnt always get the best reviews...

What is the lift of the cams youre looking to get? Im running comp 280 cams 10.8mm lift) on my evo with stock prings no problem to 8k. I had some kelfords that I was going to run in it, but I didnt want to replace the springs yet. Those cams were 11.5mm lift.

Really ? I never did any actual research on there cams. Just figured they were good.

I know ffwd (dks) also does regrinds as well just don't know anything about the company.
