Going thru my rebuild and I just want to make sure that the the oem evo 8 timing belt will wk on the 2g like the evo 9 and also will it be the Kevlar reinforced belt like the evo 9...just want to be 100%...thnx in advance

You will want to cross reference the part number for the manufacturer of your belt. Find a place that sells the brand of belt you have. Select your current vehicle, then you should be able to get a part number from there. If it is the same as the belt you have, then your good to go. If not, then you should consider the right belt.

I would use the belt designed for your 2g there are some other belts besides the oem one, never bought a Kevlar belt, oem one is a great belt for most hp applications. Again get the belt designed for your engine.

It is a smart move to get a belt designed for your engine when you are not sure, but the evo timing belts will work for out DSMs.

A popular choice is the evo9 timing belt, its apparently made of a stronger material.

It has a distinct smell that if different from the oem one, when you open the bag.

Its an evo8/9 part number:
OEM Timing Belt DSM & EVO 8/9 : JNZ Tuning

The OEM EVO 8 timing belt and the 1g/2g are the same part# MD326059 so yes it will fit, DSMs and EVO 1-8 share the same belt. The EVO IX Kevlar one has a different part# 1145A038

The linked belt is NOT an Evo 9 OEM Kevlar belt. The part number for the proper Evo 9 belt is 1145A038. If you don't see that number when searching sites, it's just a regular old TB for an Evo(not to say they're poor quality....they are OEM of course:p)

Call Jnz and ask for that belt specifically. There is absolutely zero difference between the 4G63 Evo and DSM timing belts. I run a 9 Kevlar belt just fine. They will all have an old part number still stamped on them (which I don't remember off the top of my head) but 1145A038 just supersedes the number stamped on it. You'll know right away if you have the right belt by the smell when you take it out of the bag.......it's interesting.

***Beat me to it syn.....LOL I always have to correct the part numbers in these TB threads...
