Im looking to pick up a Evo 16g in the next few weeks, I was gonna it ported and clipped, then I found this new GT version, how is the better or worse then the regular evo16g, I read some where that the is a cheap version out there that is built very bad. Any info would help guys on how the GT version is better or worse, it will help make my decision. Thanks guys.

A three second search and I found both huge threads on the turbo in question. Kinda of a nice feature that search button.

Thanks alot for posting them, I think the whole thing with the "SEARCH is a nice feature or JUST SEARCH" is getting really old. Explain to me what the reason for a Forum is? Im not trying to be an @ss here, but Im sick of getting these answers when I ask a question, most of the time I do search and I get mountains of things that have nothing to do with my question, so it takes me atleast an hour to read threw it all to find what Im looking for, so I would rather start my own thread asking any questions I may have on the subject, I use the correct titile for the question being asked so if some one does search and they click it, it may help them as well.If you read the read letters above "Before you reply:" PLease reread the #1 thing not to do. This is a forum guys so please treat it like one.

I have read those by the way (the ones you posted) but if the were so crappy why are some big name companys still selling them if there knock offs?

Get the real Evo 3 16g, get it ported but not clipped and you will be happy.

How come not clipped? I also want anything to help me against boost creep. I had an EvoIII o2 housing ported and getting the SBR manifold ported as well.

If you want to prevent boost creep, do some proper porting of both the turbo & O2 housing, if you search there has been a bunch of posts on this in the past week or too. I know its a pain to have to search through things & not get the answer your looking for, but I've already answered this question a few times in the last week & writing the same reply over & over is gettin old as well, ya gotta look at it both ways :thumb:

Like other have said spend your on the proven real MHI EVOIII, for the $50 savings I personally wouldn't buy it, its not proven & from what Ive seen doesn't look to be built very well & I've heard from a couple people that they bought them and after a month they craped out & no warrenty coverage, be it true or not. Heres a comparison from SBR of the 2 turbos:

As far as clipping Im not sure why not to clip the EVO? I know for some reason RRE doesn't do it, so there is probably a good reason for it?

In totally understand what you are saying and I didnt take it as rude at all. I will let you know why.

Just like you are tired of getting the same response all the time we get tired of answering the same questions all the time. Most people do just what you did, they read some stuff get discouraged and decide to just post in a new thread. The problem with that is just what you hate, a bunch of threads with nothign in them. Yes, we are a forum board setup for discussion, but it is also up to you to try and help yourself first. There are ton of members here and if everyone just posted a questions without searching then imagine all the crap you would have to go through to find your answer then. I know sometime it can be frustrating to try and find somethign with no luck, but give it time and you will find your answer. In the whole time I have been a DSM owner I have asked perhaps 10 questions total. These cars are well over 10 years old, so anythign that could have gone wrong will have already been discussed somewere.

As far as why some vendors sell it the way they do, simple, for the money. Hate to do it again, but in those threads have all the answers you need. I have read through both of them and know that the answres are there.

Yes I understand your side as well, Ive actually said the same thing in the past to many people about the SEARCH option. I was just being a little selfish and getting pissed about not finding anything in what I was looking for, I also have searched most of the time to find my anwer, I have been on this forum for years, and only posted minimal questions but in the past month or so I just got fed up with not being able to find my answer without having to weed threw thousands of other threads to find such a small answer so decided just to ask, it just sucks on both sides, I am with you on the fact of the "Search option" it just sucks when you search you get stupid titles like "I need Help" or "What do I need to go fast" etc etc. But I do understand what your saying as well.

With all of the controversy of the Regular EVO 3 16g and the EVO 3 16G "GT" there are positives and negatives from all sides. Our outlook on the whole situation of the EVO 3 and the EVO 3 GT is that both are great turbos. We can not keep the "GT" turbo's on the shelf, they are selling like crazy. As far as if one is better than the other I would say that is upto who you ask. We sell the EVO 3 16g "GT" for $580 and that is ported w/35 mm already installed and comes with a 12 month / 12,000 Mile warranty. The regular EVO 3 16g we sell for $580 also but the porting is $50, clipping is $55, and if you would want the bigger flapper installed is also $50. The regular EVO 3 16g also comes with a 12 month / 12,000 miles warranty. IMO I would go with the EVO 3 16g "GT" because not only have we had great feedback on this turbo, we have had no problems with any of them, and you get more for your money.

I know this supject has been discussed numerous times as stated above and you will get a different opinion from different sides. I am just letting you know what we have experienced from my point of view, and that is........The EVO 3 16G "GT" is more bang for your buck and is what I would personally go with. Take care :thumb:

Is there anything specific you wanted to know about the turbo that hadn't been mentioned in the 2 previous threads?

My only probelm is how many of those sales are people that thought they were getting a true MHI turbo and didnt. Yes, it says on your site that they are not MHI, but that wasnt updated until those threads came out with the truth. My other question is if they only cost about 280-300 to buy why are they still selling for 580.00?

For the thread starter, you may also want to check out this page and see what you think about this, "just as good as the real thing" turbo.

http://www.slowboyracing.com/evo3vsgt.htm

"In closing, we feel genuinely bad that we sent an MHI turbo to China over 6 months ago to see if a less expensive turbo could be made and brought to market. When we learned of the quality and issues in manufacturing, we decided to pass on bringing these to our loyal DSM customers. We could not offer such an inferior product, for any price."

Does that mean that Slowboy was trying to find a manufacturer to make the "SBR E3 16G?"

I thought I read on Buschur's site that the new E3b16g could not be clipped? I must have misread it, I'll take a look now. Since I contacted David earlier about that turbo and his alcohol setup.

Exactly my query.

I'm going to be the first to say that I have lost a lot of respect for Buschur as a vendor over this turbo. The way I see it, of course they are going to reccommend the Chinese GT over the real Evo3 16g--their margin of profit is probably $200 per turbo on the Chinese GT, and $75 on the Evo3 16g.

Additionally, I think that all of the vendors who continue to market this turbo as the "Evo 316g GT" or some similarly deceiving name are unconscionable. Call it the Chinese GT turbo (Evo3 16g replica) or something like that. Oh wait. That would kill sales of the knockoff, and more people would buy the MHI Evo3 16g

I don't like any of this at all. And I commend SBR for not taking part in this scandal.

And Damian, it is possible to clip an Evo3 16g--mine is clipped, and many vendors used to do it a few years ago. Then ShapeGSX ran his 11.9 pass with an unported, unclipped Evo3 16g ;)
