I am running a 95 TSi, AWD and 5-speed. I just picked up a spare ECM but come to find out, it's a non-eprom model (from a 95 TSi oddly enough). Now am I correct in thinking that if the time comes to need the non-eprom ecm, I would just be able to swap firing order and injector plugs and be back on the road again.

And can someone explain to me in laymens terms the difference between the PROM and Non-PROM ecms, other than the obvious missing chip...

If you have no modifications that need a modified EPROM chip (bigger injectors being the main reason), then yes, you could just the non-EPROM ECU in and away you go. You don't need to swap the firing order/injector plugs since your car is a '95. The only time people need to swap the plug wires is if they have a non-'95-'96 CAS sensor.

Here's more info about swapping the plug wires:

And here's what an EPROM chip is. This is the only special thing about the ECU.
