Well i have a sad story. To all of you who think synthetic/synthetic blends are any good you are way wrong. I recently did an oil change on my car and used some new stuff Mobil1 Clean 7500 10w-30. Well at the beginning I could tell a definate amount of oil pressure lose. I had about 10 dealer mechanics tell me that the lose of pressure was made up by better flow and better protection. Which is complete bullshit in my books. Well today I noticed a noise and I thought that I spun another B-shaft bearing. Well it ended up being a rod bearing. So I took apart all the rod caps and all the bearings were pitted and showing copper. So I showed my boss and he said that the synthetic oil flowed so well that it basically did lubricate the bearing enough. So here I my word to you all not to use Synthetics. Use Castrol GTX 10w-30. There is no better conventional oil. And conventional oils have worked for a hundred years so dont change. I have more questions but that is for a later post. :mad: :talon:

I have used Mobile 1 full synthetic 5-40 and spell check with no Issues. :thumb:

Every one has their pet peeves I guess. Let me say this as a professional technician.

I have never seen an engine fail due to oil !! Lack of it and not changed often enough yes. If the oil was the culprit, the other manufacturers would decimate the alleged bad oil manufacturer. This is a highly competitive market with no room for this kind of error. Just check the racing channel and any car magazine. Oil ads everywhere. Never have you seen any manufacturer say their competitor manufactured defective oil, be it petroleum based or synthetic. Now with that being said.

I have used synthetic oil in everything I own. Including my 89 Goldwing. I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever in any of them. Now, let me go one step further. Use what ever oil you prefer, change it regularly, and drive happy.

You are OK in your decision to use your preferred brand. As we are in ours.

You have no proof to back this up. That the oil blew your motor. Maybe your " I gotta floor it everywhere I go" driving did it. Or your lack of maintainance did it. I would never use an oil for more than 2500-3k miles no matter how good it is. The oil WILL break down no matter how long they say it will last. We use synthetic motor oil in our race motor's we build and that is 700+ hp SBC with 13+:1 compression. Never had any problems due to oil breakdown. Only use regular to break them in. Like I said before this is purely opinionated and you have no scientific research to back it up....And what's with like 4 posts about your motor in 15 minute's. Couldn't you have summed it all up in one post.
 
Complete bullshit. I defy you to find an oil on the market today -I'll even go so far as to include the reclaimed oils from the chain auto parts stores- that will allow engine damage.
However, no damaged engine ["I thought that I spun another B-shaft bearing"] can be saved by any magical fluid.

I dunno about the reclaimed oil.......

Ive put oil and antifreeze/ oil and tranny fluid in those things......Shhhhh :shhh:

But I totally agree. There is no whay in hell Mobil 1 spun your bearings. Ive run nothing but sythetic in a 130k motor. Spun a rod bearing because it was due to happen, replaced it, and rocked out on synth for another 5k with no problems except jumping time. And Im replacing the whole thing, breaking it in with straight 30, and goin right back to synthetic.

Thats total BS. And how do you "flow so well" that you spin a bearing? That doesnt even make sense.

I some what agree with him regarding the mobil synthetic oil...not even 2 months ago my motor started knocking after changing to mobil synthetic earlier in the day...and this is a built 420a with 15,000 miles since the rebuild...I found the problem was a slightly warn rod bearing....I changed it out and put a fresh batch of mobil synthetic in the car and it knocked again...I immediately drained the mobil oil and switched back to Castrol Syntec like Ive always used and the sound was gone in less than 5 minutes...I cant say whether Mobil has bad quality control or what it is but im staying away from them...but synthetic oils are great just stick with Castrol Syntec
