Just got done rebuilding my engine. I went to turn her over the other day and all she wanted to do is Spit flames out the Downpipe.(open downpipe). Im getting spark, I have the wires hooked up correctly, there are no wires unhooked and No leaks. What can this be? Does anyone think its something serious?

I found out that the oil pump sprocket was Half way OFF its timed mark. No is this the reason why my car is not starting up? I have a 97 CAS on my car. PLease get back to me asap

No, the the oil pump being off like that will not affect the starting or not of your car. However, Does it idle rough when it does run? If it does, then I would venture to guess that your balance shaft is not properly aligned. If it doesnt idle rough then the oil pump not lining up isnt even anything to worry about. Ive had my oil pump balance shaft out like 3 turns or what ever for like 3500 miles and all it does is idle alittle rough sometimes. Yes I know I need to fix that. One of these days.

I still think your timing isnt right. Go back and tear off the timing belt again and make sure that every thing is at dead on nuts TDC.

Yea, well im going to have a expert look at it one day this upcoming week. My stcok 95CAS broke so I needed one fast so I drilled into my cam and put a 97 CAS on because that all that was available at the time

Ok I heard from a guy that I need to switch coil pack from 1and4 with 2and3 . Because the pickup is turning in reverse. Since I switched teh 95CAS to a 97CAS . Anyone know of this?

Okay if Im reading this correctly I see that you have, or have not, done the 4g63 conversion? If you have, then according to what was said in this forum you would need those coil wires reversed. If what spinz4 said is correct. Assuming that he was thinking you put the 97 cas on a 95 motor. Do you see what im saying? :D :p
but if you didnt do the conversion then I think I dont know what your problem is. sorry charlie

Im just a lowly 1G guy...but.

I take it this is a 7-bolt 2G engine....95' model. 95's shouldn't have a CAS first off.

I would be absoultely terrified to spin that engine over if there was a timing mark off.

Before you guys jump me, I know the oil pump sprocket has nothing to do with the crank/cam timing, but if he put the engine in time - spun it over a bunch - and now has timing marks off, then it sounds like he did the belt wrong. Tension issue probably, but now probably bent valves.

Question: Did you spin the engine by hand 6 times to make sure you stayed in time when you did the belt?

If you physically did the belt right, then I'm with the rest of the guys, either the firing order is off, or your ignition timing is off.

I have personally built 2 engines myself and assisted in 2 or 3 with friends. Granted these are 1G's, we just throw a CAS in it and worry about adjusting the advance/retard after we get the engine running (1G's can do that, 2G's cannot). I have seen every engine run (rough) with it all the way advanced or all the way retarded, but they will crank up. With a 2G you bolt the CAS in and your ignition timing should already be in the right spot.

Based on what you've said, I'd be closely looking at my timing belt job.
