Engine Treatment(Dumb Mistake)

Hey my dad gave me a box full of car stuff he never used that was pretty new , one of the bottles was a full unopened bottle of :

Slick Synchron 50 Sythetic Formula Engine Treatment.



it dint have a back label though and i poured the whole bottle in ,i just looked it up and it says im suppose to have a 90% oil to 10% of this stuff ratio.



am i gonna mess anything up running this?

For anyone else reading this.. I've taken a huge stand against engine treatments.
As far as I'm concerned anything that didn't come in there doesn't belong to be there (fluids).

Only thing I've ever added was watter-wetter and coolant flush, and the occasional seafoam for a quick clean.

I guess what I'm asking is should I stop the staunch opposition I have against products like this?

i really dont have the money for a new oil change........on scale 1 to 10 how bad is it if i leave it in ? for a month.

Weigh the outcomes.

1.) Spend 35 bucks on an oil change (the price of mobile 1 if you do it yourself w/ filter).

2.) Risk damaging seals or other engine parts, or the entire engine itself by leaving it in.

It MAY not hurt your engine at all, problem is, you won't know until you choose one of the above. However, seeing is how you don't have money to spend for an oil change, you progbably don't have money for a new engine or parts.

Just go to walmart and buy a 5 liter bottle of oil for $12, keep the same filter, and change it yourself. Then you can change it again when you get some money.

I agree with posters here that say it's best to drain it and get yourself some Mobile 1, but then again most likely you won't have any problems at all. Your best bet to save money on an oil change is go to Wal Mart and buy the 5 quart jug of Mobile 1. Here in South Carolina, you can get one for 21 bucks. If you must, just reuse your filter for this change, it won't kill you if you're not going to run the car hard.
Depending on your usage, go with 5W30, 10W30, or 15W50.

How much did you put in? I mean how big was the bottle? 1 quart? 1/2 quart? If it was 1 quart then you would have about 20% engine treatment, but if it was 1/2 quart you would be right around the recommended 10%.

Hey man, I hear ya, but that's beyond question now. We've all done things we wish we wouldn't have, it's best to just try and help the guy out now. Not a HUGE problem, but still needs attention.

That's just under a half a quart. You should be fine since you are within the recommended amount. It's all good.

i agree, drain it. cheap oil is better than not knowing what you have in there or what it does. i knew a guy who filled his engine completely with slick 50 just to see what it would do and right when he took off, the motor let go. dont know exactly what broke, but its a dead car now. not that this will happen to you, it just makes me a little scetchy about additives that dont meet the same specs as the oil its replacing or blending with.

We had a semi that had a bad motor in it so we put 5 gallons of lucas engine oil treatment in her and sent it to the auction .

Worked like a charm.

sold didnt knock until he changed the oil.

Damn detroit diesel.

You guys are acting like he dumped a gallon of brake cleaner and metal shavings into his motor.WTF It is just 50 weight oil and PTFE (Teflon). It is highly unlikely to cause any damage to your engine. The primary downside to a teflon additive is that over time it can buildup at oil passage inlets reducing oil pressure, the upside is theoretically it could reduce friction on moving parts(also not that likely but that is what it is supposed to do). I would drive it for 3000 miles and change the oil and filter. It is "snake oil" not acid... I wouldn't worry about it...

Slick 50 was exposed (and sued) years ago for selling .50 cents worth of MINERAL OIL as a $40 engine oil treatment. It won't kill your motor and you'll be fine to drive the car to your local auto store and buy 5 quarts of oil and back home to change it. If it were a n/a car, you could leave it in there until the next oil change but it's not good (too thin) for a turbo car.
