Well...after 3 years of driving a 1986 chevy celebrity piece of shit, I got a 93 eclipse nt last week for 1000 bucks from a good friend. Good deal right? So I thought. Car ran strong, very clean engine, until this evening. It starts acting kinda weird, wanting to stall when I downshift at stop signs etc. So me and my bud check the oil....NONE ON DIPSTICK OH SHIT. So I end up putting all but 3 quarts of oil in the ####ing thing, just great. So its kinda making a pinging/clicking/knocking sound whatever you wanna call it and seemed to be coming from the head. So we drive to a movie, get into the parking lot and it starts shuttering real bad and dies out. So we go into the movie and came back out, checked the oil and for leaks, nothing. So I start it up first time, nothing, dies out. Start it again(after I called my dad and he came over to look at it...) and it starts up. Runs smooth so I doubt its piston or rod...but its still making this clikcing/banging sound. So I drive it home, about 11-12 miles to my house and my local garage is just right down the street....by the time I got it to the garage it sounds no like like a car being crushed in a compactor. Rattling, banging, the whole nine yards and just as im pulling into a parking spot the car dies, phew got it to the shop. After that, wont start. Wont turn over. So Im gonna see what the mechanic says tomorrow. Timing belt is fine, nothing from the outside shows any signs of any damage etc. Any of you guys have any suggestions or ideas of what it might be? I'm really pissed off about it....I'm thinking maybe a bad camshaft?? Also saw some spark from a plug wire when starting the car to come home but I dont think that would cause such major problems...any opinions are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys

if you ran the oil too low, the engines bearings and things could have dried up. without theoil to protect the parts, its just metal on metal.

Ever hear of a tow truck?

Enjoy your new engine. And the bill.

yea i wanted to tow it...but my dad comes over to check it out and says well it doesnt seem like anything major so lets try and get it home....HAH. goin down to the garage today hopefully the guys will get a chance to look at it....but im not holding my breath. ....starting to look at new engines...

anyone else have any opinions? my dad seems to think the engine isnt dead as the sounds are coming from the head?? it really doesnt sound like a piston or rod...and if it was wouldnt the car shutter all the time? it ran smooth and didnt lose power at all so wouldnt that kinda indicate it wasnt a piston or rod?

if the timing belt jumps a tooth it will stutter and run crappy, 2 teeth and you get REALLY loud nasty valve train noise, the car runs but barely, it super loud from around the valve cover, i had my tbelt do that and i found it was 2 teeth off and i reset everything and i was ok....until a couple weeks later when the tbelt stripped and i bent all my valves hah
