My axel nut is frozen on my passenger side of my gst and I was going to take the tranny out with the motor because it always seems easyer, but now I can't seem to get it out that way. so how do I get the motor out with out taking the tranny out? It seems like there is no room to do it with out taking all my pullys off to make enough room? Any Idea's :beatentodeath:

:nono: It's if not impossible near impossible to take it out w/o removing trans first or at same time. You're best bet would be to unbolt the knuckleand slide the knuckle and axle off as a unit. That'd be way easier.

I always pull the trans along with the motor, my axles are also seized into the hub.
I have to tear apart the suspension so I can pull the hub out to give me enough room to pop the axles out.

So just unbolt the hub and suspenshion and try to pop the axels out that way then pull it out. I just hope I don't run into another problem man this has been a pain in the but. Although it is a Michigan DSM so I'm not all that suprized at all the rust around areas that don't get removed and put back on all the time. Any other good Ideas while I do this, mabe anything to watch out for while doing it this way?

Have you tried a impact wrench? Or soaked it with wd 40 or something like it? I have pulled just the tranny out, But not just the motor I don't think it can be done.

Yah I have been using liquid wrench and wd40 on it for the past 2 days and I've been using a electrick inpactwrench on it as well as a 1/2in braker bar on it. I wish I had a air impact gun but not at this time.

Even if you get the castle nut off, You are most likely not going to pop the axles out of the hub, its is a common thing on 2g's for them to seize up in the hub.

Ive pulled out just the engine, but I had to pull off some things off the front case first. Its not east to do, you have to lift the right side of the engine way higher.

I would just focus on getting your tranny out, because if I remember right, I HAD to take the tranny out to get the engine back in anyways.

Try using a huge breaker bar on that axle nut, I mean like the handle of a floor jack (4 feet long) I have been able to break anything with this method (even a few wrenchs). If that doesnt work pull the whole knuckle or I would just cut off the damn nut and get a new axle if you have to. Thats what youll have to do eventually, for $60 an axle, now would be the time to do it.

Once you do get the axle part situated... Invest in a tranverse bar. Lets you tilt the engine and tranny to help clear everything. Should have them at your local autozone/automotive store.. Picked mine up for about 50 bucks and can pull the engine/tranny in about 1 1/2hours :thumb:

Thanks guys for all the help. Now I'm off to work on it again I will repost again if I get it all done mabe I'll throw so Pics of the car up from the crash and show yah what happened. Thanks again.

You can definitely take out the engine with the transmission still in the car, but like SnowBird said it's really tough to get the engine back in with the transmission in the car.

I took out my engine with the trans still in the car but I had to take out a lot of parts on the front of the engine (timing belt side) such as: timing belt, pulleys, alternator, motor mount etc. It was a pain and unless you're planning on putting the engine back in and THEN putting all the accessories on (alt, timing belt, motor mount, etc.) in the engine bay then your best bet is to pull the engine and trans together. The easiest way to do that is to hook up an engine hoist to the 4 outside bolts/studs on the intake and exhaust side. That will hold the head, block and trans and you can pull it all out from those 4 points.

Axle nuts can be a real PAIN especially without air tools. Impact wrench is your best bet, comes off with no trouble. If you don't have access to one, get a breaker bar and if needed find a pipe or something that you can attach to your wrench on the axle nut to get more torque on it and break it loose. Jump on it, spray it with PB blaster or heat it up with a torch to get those bastards off!

PM me if you need any additional help! :thumb:

electric impact? That explains alot LOL. Them things are weak dude. Try a air impact. Get the longest bar you can use for a cheater bar, leverage is everything man. Also, you dont have to take the axle nut off. take the 2 bottom ball joins off, the tie rod end (leave top ball joint on) and pull up from the hub/knuck while someone pops the axle out of the trans. Thats the easiest way i've found so far.

^^^^^^Agreed
I remove lugs from my fathers 18 wheeler with a lug wrench and a cut off driveshaft and another person to hold the socket on the nut while you are pulling. Make sure that your car is secured well attempting to remove the nut.
