medicine hat,
i was told that to remove the engine out of my car that you have to pull the engine out through the bottom of the car...is this true???? how long does it ussually take to remove and put a different motor in these cars??

my friend ordered his jdm 4g63 today from a place called "low mileage engines" or something like that...they're out of New jersey and its guaranteed to have 40k or less. He's paying 650 for engine, 350 for tranny, and 225 for ECU....good price IMO. We're going to pick it up in a week or so.

I paid 1500$ for an entire clip.

shifter, petals, all electronics, FMIC everything.
and im going to do a complete swap.

My brother and I are going to remove his 4g63 (2g auto)without a cherry picker or crane. Can this be done? We do not have access and its way out in the boones. I was thinkin we could just drop it from the bottom? I done swaps in the past and have dropped some from under, but am wondering if it can be done on a 2g talon. Searched but no info. Thanks for any help:thumb:

Hey guys, I'm taking my engine out for the first time. Could you tell me where do I hook the chains to pull the engine out of the car. I was thinking I should hook the first chain to the front engine mount bracket and the second chain to the matel bracket that connects the throttle body to the head. Can this support the weight of the engine?

Yes you hook it to the TB bracket and the bracket above the manifold.

do you have access to a lift? maybe this is dumb because if you don't have a hoist you probably don't have a lift. or if not heres something you can try that a friend did on his rx7 13b he went out and bought a manual chain pully system for i think less then $100. Looks like a 1' wide cylinder with a circular chain you use to control the movement and another chain with a hook on it. He use a bunch of bolts and washers to attach the engine to the hook, braced the pully above his car and the ceiling beams and pulled his engine right out. Has used it plentry of times to remove and install his engine. It's cheap and it works really well because you can swing the engine into place and raise and lower it easily as need be. His setup was plentry strong to easily move his tranny and engine together.

-I had pull the 4G63 out through the front wheel well before, the oil pan; intake & exhaust manifold & tranny are off, I make a stand fit over the floor jack so it clear the crank, and strap the motor to the jack.

you can make an 'a' frame out of wood with a chain fall attached to pull it . pretty much NO it cant be dont from the bottm ( at least it aint worth it )

If it were done from the bottom, you'd have to strip it of all its accessories and then support is and take off all the mounts. then it will just fall right out...on top of you. Don't cut corners. Find somebody who will let you borrow their hoist or rent one. I'm in the middle of doing a swap and it's a royal PIA.

I am attempting to remove the engine and tranny (91'GSX) all in one piece out the bottom. I assume I just remove the axles unbolt the motor mounts disconnect all harnesses and hoses then unbolt the sub-frame and lower it down. Does anyone have experience with this? Any help would be appreciated.

I never done it like that before. You will have to pull the downpipe off along with the transfer case. Make sure to tie up the driveshaft with a coat hanger or some sort of wire. You don't want it dangling there.

IT WORKED!!! AFTER REMOVING ALL WIRING HARNSSES AND MOTOR MOUNTS, I REMOVED BOTH AXLES, UNBOLTED SUB FRAME AND LOWERED THE WHOLE UNIT IN ONE PIECE. ONLY PROBLEM I HAD WAS THE DRIVER SIDE LOWER RADIATOR MOUNT WAS HITTING THE EXH. MANIFOLD SO I CUT IT OFF. IF YOU WERE KEEPING THE CAR YOU COULD PROBABLY TILT THE MOTOR/TRANNY BACK ENOUGH TO CLEAR IT. SO IT CAN BE DONE BUT IF YOU ARE GOING TO ATTEMPT THIS I WOULD RECCOMEND THE CAR BE AT LEAST 4' OFF THE GROUND BECAUSE I HAD TO USE A BUCKET LOADER TO LIFT THE CAR OFF THE MOTOR/TRANNY.

Whats up, I need help trying to locate spot to mount the engine hoist.
Im not taking out the tranny only the motor and I dont see any hooks or area to mount the chain. Thanks for the help
Oh and a pic would be great.

Thanks, but unfortunatly I dont have that piece by the throttle body ,and I didnt see the other spot by the power sterring pump. I will look tonight again, Thank again for the help.

But still need some suggestions on were to hook it up to, so I can take this POS out and put the better motor in

If thats a pic of your engine, it looks like you have the black brace up by the TB. The black brace spans from the TB to the CAS. It looks like the other bracket by the manifold is missing. I suggest pulling off the driver side motor mount and bolting the hoist chain to one of the 2 front motor mount studs.

Try to keep at NOT being supported by anything from the aluminum head. I'd suggest use a bolt to hold the chain to the block where air conditioning compressor bracket used to be. Just look for solid pieces.

Hint - take the tranny out. I didn't and I regret every minute of it.

Hello, That is a pic of the old bad engine, the other engine didnt have the brace by the TB or the other one. I can just swap that piece out then, Thanks for all the help guys. Oh and is it really that hard taking the engine out with out the tranny, becouse Im only doing a engine swap. The tranny is fine so i kinda didnt want to take that out .
Thanks

It's not so much the effort of taking out the tranny, But the increased problems in trying not to. There is no room to start with in the engine compartment, at least side to side. I have pulled my engine twice. once engine/tranny togeather. The second time tranny first and engine second. The second way was the smoother of the two. Drop the transfer case and leave it on the driveshaft. Put it on a 2X4 in the back to keep the spline shaft aligned. Yank the half shafts and you will be able to unbolt the AC compresser from the mount from the bottom where the transfer case was. Putting it all back togeather again leave the transmission mount out of the car and hoist the transmission back up using the transmission mount bracket as a hoist point then put the car side of the mount back on the car when it's up in place. Just a quick thumbnail but I hope it helps.
